Best Ski Resort for a week in Andorra?
Started by User in Andorra, 8 Replies
Hi
The 2 areas (Valnord/Grand Valira) are not linked although they are only about 15km apart!!
The Sport Wellness looks absolutely beautiful and is right by the Gondola - I spoke to some people who stayed there last year and they couldn't praise it enough!
Grand Valira is the much bigger area and is due to get bigger with new links to other small areas going in soon. None of it is particularly challenging - but it is a great area and worth visiting.
skis to blades

Take both skis and blades and take each day as it comes. Blades are great fun and have their place on the mountain even though hardcore skiers scoff at them. See how your leg feels and what your frame of mind is and clip in to what feels right on the day!!I always feel blades are for sunny days, when you tend to feel a bit more adventurous!! I have had major surgery on one leg due to a ski accident and have followed the above for years - I'm now trying to grasp snowboarding - oh give me back my ski's!!!!
I wouldn't recommend Chamonix with children - a fab area but very spread out and not so good for beginners. Many French resorts are high so good for early skiing - and many of the ski schools hold torchlit descents on Xmas eve. LaPlagne is a great area for all abilities - and really good for children as all the runs come back to a central flat area with bars and cafes where the children can sled and bumboard whilst you enjoy a drink watching them. Lots of good chalet companies operate in the various linked resorts - I came here 5 years in a row when my twins were small as it was perfect for them to enjoy as well as us getting some skiing miles under our belt. Recommended child friendly companies companies - Ski Beat and Silver Ski. Don't use the
ESF for lessons use the private ski school called Oxygene in Plagne Centre - no dearer and much friendlier and more flexible. The resort is deserted til Boxing Day as the French stay at home for Xmas
