I did once end up hanging by my jacket from an old wooden slat chair. Only a few feet off the ground though. It's quiet a shock as you go to ski away at the top, and suddenly find yourself being sling shotted around 180 degrees hanging by your coat tails

I'm British, and I do not whoop  |
Just another excuse for rednecks to get out on snowmobiles. They may look exciting from the UK, but they are very chavy in NA (unless you actually need one for a real purpose, i.e. not to ride around and drink gnat's piss beer, instead of doing a real winter sport).
 sorry, personnel rant topic |
Or someone says "bar down" and pulls it down, just as you are taking off and still getting settled. Also on chairs without foot rest, the person next to you who's skis are at 45 degrees at the same height as yours. |
Fun video and great editing.

Easy solution, but a credit card will do. The main reason for scraping the sole of boots is alignment (other that just being able to get into the bindings). Just 1mm of ice (compressed snow) on one side of the heel and you are going to be skiing like @#$%, and even a fraction of that will mess up your skiing.

The first lift ride up in the morning; it takes for ever

In my experience, kids don't get (or need) the same level of fitting that older teens and adults need. The reason is because the feet are growing so fast. If your kid is in the middle of a growth spurt and you buy her perfectly fitting boots, you could be selling them on six weeks latter. Some care should be taken to know exactly how big the boots are (if the kid says they are OK the boots are likely big) and a boot fitter would be able to see any major allignment issues. There are some size adjustable boots on the market now, which might be a good idea.
I know from experience that you will be lucky to get two seasons out of a pair of kid's boots, and that's most likely when they hit their early teens. My daughter went through seven pairs of boots in the ten years from four to fourteen. If they are pronated, it would be worth buying some off the shelf foot beds, and then using them in other footwear as well to make it worth while. |
