I have just looked on the webcam from www.Auhof.co.uk for Niederau and it is not looking the best at the moment. Looks like a few brown patches are starting to appear both at the top of the mountain and also on the nursery slopes at the bottom!
We really could do with a big dump of snow in the next few weeks otherwise it looks like we would only be able to water-ski or worse have to walk down if it melts away....
I am starting to get a bit nervous as it is only about 2 weeks until i go.
Not good :-(

Don't panic (yet). The major forecast models are pretty much in agreement that the mild weather will last about another week and that temperatures are likely to be below average (that'd be cold then) for the last week of January. Cross your fingers and keep on doing the snow dance!

Mild for another week will mean misery for anyone hitting the lower altitude Austrian & German slopes next week. Normally we ski for two weeks in mid Jan but due to the increasing pressure not to take the kids out of school we have put our trip back to the 11th Feb. Fingers crossed we will get plenty of snow.
One point to make, can't remember which year it was but the last time the conditions were rubish in January the big tour operators organised excursions to the Stubia & Hintertux glaciers.

2007 I think. There were also lorry loads of snow delivered to some resorts.

So Austria was short of snow 2005 and 2007 blimey, it seems a regular occurrence now with 2011.

It was only 2007. And it was the same all over Europe. It is nowhere near as bad as that. There is a foehn for a few days, then due to snow on Thursday.
Lots of soft wax, and you may need to lean back a little, but be be prepared to rock forward! It's just another little challenge to be enjoyed!

Skied in Schladming every year from 2004-2009 and even in the freak season 2007 in January with green pastures surrounding the pistes they were in excellent condition. Fantastic snow canon infrastructure.
