Hi guys, I booked to go sking with a couple of friends at late notice, we leave on saturday and arrive at geneva airport for 4 days. I have been skiing a couple of times over the last few years to val d'isere and zermatt. However, my friends have never done it before but will probably be quick learners being the daredevils that they are. Not sure where to go this time, going to book a hotel on arrival to the resort. Any advice would be really appreciated. I dont mind travelling a few hours from the airport, I'm looking for somewhere that is beginner friendly, has good nightlife and is not too expensive as I found Val d'isere a little bit OTT with the prices, also somewhere where the snow has been good. Not really looking for a family resort as its a group of guys. Am I asking for too much?

You'll probably be ok anywhere, but I dont like the sound of going with a group of mates who have never done it before. Dangerous for both them and for others on the slopes. Have they thought about having lessons, or are you just going for a crack and a booze up? If so, I'd forget skiing and spend the weekend in the city of Geneva.
Its not the sort of thing to be taken lightly, going skiing/boarding for the first time.

Not much advice there mate, pretty negative answer to be honest. Not what I was looking for. Geneva for the weekend, r u avin a laf. We're going skiing, an of course my friends are going to have lessons. We're not goin for a piss up, just looking for some good nightlife aswel as good skiing.

Ok, thats different if they are taking lessons then.
I was concerned your "daredevil mates" might be the sort of people I saw in BKK a few years back who had never been on snow, never had lessons, got to the top and hurtled down the mountain taking anyone in their way with them whilst shouting "****ing deadly".
I take it back, apologies.

In which case, you need to weigh up whether you want somewhere with good snow (ie Morzine, Avoriaz), somewhere very close by, or somewhere which has everything further afield (Verbier for example).

You also need to consider where might be quieter in terms of getting booked in late, as many resorts sell out a lot of space to the tour ops.

I'd hazard a guess that Morzine might be a good shout.

Given that choice, I'd do Morzine for the shorter break, and to save on costs as well. Courch is v expensive generally. Also, bit of a bugger to get to esp at weekends.....valley roads are very busy round there, many traffic jams, it would be VST wasted IMO.

Because it's a short break, with a late booking, I'd suggest Chamonix. Even though it's not normally considered good terrain for beginners, plenty of people do learn there, and there are lots of ski schools. What it does have is an abundance of accommodation and more nightlife than anywhere else I've skied. These folks do late bookings, though you will need a car to use their own place, which is out of town.

I dismissed Cham because he said the group were all beginners!
