Not sure how much this affects the normal skier,

but i'm 6ft and skied on 163s last year. I went for head monsters which are to date the best skis i've ever used but i just couldn't get on with them.

I think the boot size (10) meant that I was too near the back of the ski and thus didn't ever really feel smooth when turning (compared to the 177s I've used.

So does boot size have a baring on your lengh selection??

For your situation, my view, is that the skis you were using were a tad short for you. FWIW I have some Monster 77's in 163, and I'm 164. I was out on them with ise a week ago in Grimentz. What you were experiencing (I think) was instability fore and aft,= tall person+short not particularly stiff ski. If you want to keep with short skis, I'm thinking you need to head towards a proper stiff slalom type ski. Of course, you will need to work hard on core body strength to get the best from a pair.

I don't think your boot sole length is a factor here.

Time to grade up, go fatter and longer )

Alright mate,

I have the revel 8 Trees which are 105 in length and are 14.5/11.5/14.4 in width (tip, kick zone, tail)

I got them off the very helpful guys at www.exclaimskiboards.co.uk who are the only dealer outside the US to sell the Revel range. They also made their own release bindings and riser plate that fit to the boards 4x4 mounting holes.
Sadly, Exlaim have sold out of the Revel boards but have a small stock of Lacross boards in which I have read some good reviews on. It also looks like they have ran out of their release bindings.

Pics of my boards can be seen on the link to the US site.

There is a lot of information on the Revel skiboards forum for anyone who would like more information on these magic sticks.

Ski boards should not be mixed up with skiblades which are made by K2, salmon and head as these boards are crap with foam cores which are prone to breaking. Read on the forum, there are pro riders and there are skiboards available for different heights / weight

PM me your email Ross and I'll be happy to send you pics of my set up

Chuffy, I was just interested in the good for carving/good for powder thing.. it is not usually something you associate with skiboards or any skis. Especially as longer+fatter seems to be the trend for powder skis.. I can't imagine there is much stability at speed. Would have thought stability with speed would come with length....

You would think that but skiboards have evolved over the years especially with Revel, Different lengths, widths and stiffness along with other features like sidewalls, carbon beams and release bindings.

The Condor Revel model is 110 long and 16.5/13.5/16.5 wide and is made to give excelent "float" on deep powder.

I can't comment much on backcountry and off - piste since I only have my first pair and will be sticking to the normal runs.

I'll be sure to do a write up on the boards when I return from Austria in the new year. Tested them out at Xscape and they were suprisingly fast and stable

Plenty of info on the skiboard forums
