Chris, I assume you're skiing in Austria this year? If you know where, why don't you e-mail the ski school - they will have the definitive answer.

I don't think it is compulsory. I certainly don't recall being told it was when we went there a couple of years back.

As far as I know and I havn't found any more info by searching, Italy is the only European country which has put any legislation on the statute books. Most ski schools though, insist that children wear helmets.
If you ask yourself how you would feel if, god forbid, a bad accident happened and your child wasn't wearing a helmet and they suffered head injuries .... well there is really only one conclusion isnt there?

All kids should wear helmets. The definition of 'kid' in terms of snow sports is anyone between the ages 1 and 100. )
