I know helmets are compulsory for under 14's in Italy, but are there any rules regarding this in Austria?

Whether or not its compulsary or not I am not sure but I would make my kids wear one. No helmet.........no skiing.
I notice in Finland kids under 7 wearing helmets get free ski hire and lift passes. That cuts the costs considerably if you are taking kids.
Certainly in Austria last year most the kids in ski school wore helmets whether it was choice or whether it was the rules for ski school, not sure.
I'm a laydee

Helmets for kids are more common than not and I know that a lot of ski schools insist on them.

Personally I would recommend it.
