Prescription skiing glasses help....anyone.....

I also switch lenses to suit the conditions. I find the yellow ones quite good in low light. Click on the image then use the zoom to see what I mean.

Hi Rob,

I have evolved several solutions. I am short sighted, but can read clearly. Normally wear varifocals. Solutions:

Wrap round dark sunglasses, Specsavers £60 ~ in fixed short sight lens only, but this is OK for skiing, I only need to see the next turn. Wear these 98% of the time. OK in snow conditions, unless really wet snow.

Wide goggles over normal glasses. Old solution, no longer used. Available from ski shops. Cheap

Goggles with internal clip-in spectacles. They work OK, but I rarely wear them. £90 ish

Clip-in inserts into wrap round cycling-type sunglasses. Five different colour lenses. Normally only wear for biking. Under £100.

Last two available as specials from most spectacle shops.

Thanks a lot. I think i`ll be going for the clip in inserts! My eyes are that bad ( -5.50 and -5.00) that i can even see the next turn without my proper prescription. I thought about the goggles, but would need to wear them all the time, so that really rules them out for me.

Just out of interest, anyone who uses the clip-in inserts, do you ever have any trouble with fogging up?

To avoid fogging up problems, I use Hilco Fog Buster, from this supplier..

If you do go for the Adidas shades, may I suggest that once you have them, that you go visit a high street optician and buy the toughest metal case that will fit them. I broke my Adidas plastic case this year and I've not been able to replace it, so I went for a big spectacles case instead. I also carry a spare pair of specs with me at all times...just in case of mishap!

Mu Hubby had this problem, his eyesight is worse than yours. He had the problem ski-ing and surfing. He solved it by switching to disposable contact lens and wearing what goggles or sun glasses he likes. The idea was to wear the lens just for these activities, but he is now wearing the lens more and more and his glasses just when his eyes are tired or has just got up.

Disposable contacts are very useful for any sport, not just skiing. If your eyes can cope with them, go for it :D
