Sounds like the boots are big. What often happen is, you'll crank the buckles down so hard your feet will be uncomfortable.
With a good fit, the buckles can be lightly tightened and you have no foot movement because there's no where for your foot to move. With a loose fit, the buckles must be tightened like a vice to stop your foot sliding around.
You might be better off finding a cheap used pair of boots that fit well than mess around with the new boots you have.
Frustrating though it is, it's all part of the learning experience. Been there , done that.
