hi, i was wondering if you could help me with the following issue.
last year, i bought a pair of boots without trying them because it was a relative who was travelling to the USA and i asked her to buy them for me.
the thing is, i like the boots but i feel they could be a bit more tight. i can feel my feet moves inside the boot a bit when i take a bump.
therefore: my boots are salomon xwave 6 2005 28/28.5:
- one of the buckles can be turned downwards (http://www.salomonski.com/us/product.aspx?typeProduct=3&activity=10284&product=786344). what is this for? would it help me?
- is there something to do to improve my feet confort (considering i won't buy a new pair of boots for now lol)
thanks very much

Common problem, liners pack in and boots end up too big. There is no really good fix, but you might try a few things if you are stuck with those boots.

1. Did you heat mold the liners ? Do this in thin socks.
2. Wear thicker socks
3. A spacer under the foot bed, (can be a hard material, not too spongy).
4. specific location packing with self adhesive foam, especially around the heel (between the liner and the boot).
5. A liner from a different ski boot.

People's feet are all different, but a general guide would be to measure your feet in cm. This would be your true mondo point size. Go down 0.5 to 1.0 mondo points for ski boots. I find that if I don't question that the boots are too small when new, then my feet will be loose by the time the liners have packed in

thank you very much for your help!
can you explain me some more about that "heat mold the liners" thing?
so i wear a thin sock and take the liner off the boot and on my feet and simply heat it? with what?
thanks again,
augusto

Most boots have liners that when heated become 'soft' which enables them to mold to your feet. When they cool this 'mold' is maintained. This is usually performed in the shop when you buy them.

Looking at the Salomon website, I'm not entirely sure if the lining on the X-Wave 6 is thermo moldable or not. The X-Wave 7 mentions a thermo moldable tongue (MY CF Comfort) but X-Wave 6 just says 'Autofit' whatever that is!

Looks like these have auto molding foam, kinda memory foam that does not have to be heated. Downside of this is that by design, it will pack in. Thermo moldable foam expands a little when heated. This might have helped in your situation and was why I asked.

You said size 28.0/28.5 above. check the liner and see which it is (remove the liner to look). Most manufacturers make shells in whole sizes 26.0, 27.0 etc. The half sizes are achieved with a thinner liner. This means that if you have 28.5 liners, there is some hope that the shell is not way to big and that you might get some after market thermo liners.

Try a finger test. Put your foot in a boot without the liner in. With toes comfortably against the end of the boot, you should have about two stacked fingers (about 25mm)of room behind your heel. If this is the case, you might consider thermo moldable liners. If you have much more room than that, you would be throwing good money after bad.
