Snapzzz, they were bubble wrapped on the tips and tails, and packed around with small clothes. Totally agree with Trencher.

My brand new pride and joy arrived with significant chunks out of the tails, exposing the cores. After drying my tears, I ordered some 2 pack Epoxy Resin from Spyderjon on SH, and repaired the damage.

Skitubes are great, but heavy and expensive...and you lose the extra stuff space!

My bag is heavily padded, I add a fleece or two stuffed in each end to add a bit extra protection for tips and tails, wrap a couple of extra around the bindings - bag also has an internal extra bit of padding here too.

Pull the internal compression straps as tight as I can and cross all fingers...

I do have to say, the bag I have is really good, a K2 bag I bought quite cheaply from one of the online retailers, name escapes me, but highly recommend if you can find one.
Up there for thinking, down there for skiing...

I've got a double ski bag which it, allegedly, triple foam padded. It's a big air one that was reasonably priced at £40.
Because of the weight limits on ski carriage I now only take 1 pair but I fill the bag so it's packed.
Firstly I cover the skis tips to tails in bubble wrap, focusing on ensuring the ends are well covered and the bindings are well protected. I tie the wrap up with parcel tape.
I then wrap a jacket or two around the bindings and tie the arms of the jackets around the outside and lie the now well padded skis on a pair of sallos and then pack more sallos along the sides so there is no single area of the skis visible. At the end of the bag I lie my après ski shoes as I call them; a sturdy and comfy pair of Merrell walking shoes. This gives the added protection at the top and bottom.
I've never had any issue getting to ski bag through and also never had a single item damaged, despite having seen the ski bag thrown around on and off the plane and behind the baggage belt.

I really don't like those sport tubes. You can pack anything else into them really, and they're so awkward to cart about. A soft ski bag is much more useful and flexible IMO .

My OH had a pair of skis driven over by something really heavy during baggage handling, years ago.

Of course baggage handling owned up.

(Not)

Naturally they paid for our losses as the skis were written off.

(Not)

The tyre tracks on the bag should have been a bit of a clue, but as always everyone is in a hurry to GTHO of the airport, and we did not notice.

I'm beginning to think you're either making these up or you're seriously unlucky
