Posted a welcome back on another thread but shoved it onto here too. Interesting first part - had not thought it would have been crowded at this time. So sorry to hear about Mr W. My friend had an injury and missed the last day and we thought that was bad...hope he enjoyed the skiing he did. Anyway looking forward to the next installment.

It was only certain slopes and at certain times of the day, but it could be complete carnage in some areas. We did SOME queuing for lifts, but the only problems were when lifts temporarily stopped and queues quickly built up.

Lovely report Tony

Reads like you had a great week, despite the gang having some local transport problems!

Shame about Wickers' knee though, he is getting on a bit mind...

Shame about the crowds and usual StA on-piste nutters. I have memories of much the same. I think those factors pushed you into thinking less about km's and resort size and more about what type of terrain would be fun to ski 8)

You'll have to ask him, but I'm not convinced. He did do a lot of moaning, and comparing to France, mainly with the cuisine. But tbh I found Austrian food a lot better all round than French.
I think the jury would be out re the skiing for him as he didn't get to see much sadly.
He'll be on later.

I co-organise a trip for 28 people every year and St Anton comes up with the most suitable chalets but we avoid it for this reason. We have 3 or 4 very nervous skiers and it just wouldn't suit us. Shame really because I think the party atmosphere would suit us to a tee

Glad you had a good time, as always
I feel for you Ian, hope you're ok

i think those in your group, the same as the few who came with us, are wrong on this. Whilst I'd think certain runs are beyond timid skiers ability, and some runs would just drive them mad, there are areas you can reach by lift and bus/taxi which are fantastic for the more timid and less experienced. Rendl has some lovely blues, as does Zurs. If only the more timid skiers would actually use their lift pass and see more of the area......
