From what I can see, there is generally plenty of snow higher up in all the major resorts so the solution is simply - stay high as much as possible :D

Even then, the resorts have gotten really good at preserving and preparing snow on key runs. The Skiwelt area seems particularly good - perhaps because they have to be :!: I can remember skiing down a perfectly good valley run while the mountain around me did not have a single snowflake left . It was like skiing a on a white river .

If the valley runs are really terrible, you can always take the gondola down

Not great for powder hounds I suppose

I'm going to Soll on Saturday and I've started to drive myself insane my constantly checking the webcams and weather forecasts as if I can actually do anything about it. I've skied in crappy conditions before and there's still more snow and slopes than in Cardiff so I'm sure I'll have an awesome time. Plus I love strudel.

You will be just fine. I known slushy snow is a bit dangerous for someone like me who is not expert but it is not as bad as April. You can also see coping with different snow conditions as a chance to extend your skills, I tend to look at it that way. Besides, high up or north-facing conditions the snow will be pretty normal. Provided it is not cold and wet and windy I think a holiday any time in the season is fine, and I have never really understood the attention people pay to snow reports, unless you are heavily into of-piste, although it is true some fresh snow is a nice bonus. The quality of grooming (which I found pretty bad at St Anton) strikes me as at least as important.

If you stop in Innsbruck check out Strudel cafe in the old town: they have about 20 varieties of Strudel, including savoury ones :-)

I am glad that I am not the only one with a weather forecast and webcam obsession.

3 yrs ago the run down to Hopfgarten was a white ribbon 2 yrs ago it was closed because of too much snow. We had a brilliant holiday both times and clocked up a fair few kms and we will this year. The piste management is superb in the ski welt. Have a great time Steve smoothie- who knows we may "share a chair" and never know it! I did see Dave Mac bombing passed me inNiederau several years ago! lol

I know it's not everybody's cup of tea(and I'd like to keep it that way!) but there is loads of snow in Grandvalira. Just come down after some spring type off piste adventures. Hope snow arrives for all Alp centric j2ers!
