But the next crucial bit of timing will be getting to Les Boisses in time to ski down to Les Brevieres before it gets dark. According to the website below, sunset in Tignes on Sunday 13th January will be at 17-12, and then it's about a minute later each day. I wonder how 'dark' it is when it's officially sunset?

Edit
I will have a look tonight, and see how dark it is at official sunset time, and see whether I reckon I could still ski :D

This evening here at home I reckoned it would have been too dark to ski at 5 p.m. and that website said it would be sunset in Swansea at 16-49 today.

So I should say they got it about right

We'd better make sure we're safely back in Les Brevieres before 17-12 on Sunday 13th January.

That's very kind of you to offer Felthorpe, but if we can't get back before dark I was thinking of phoning for the life-boat - i.e. one of you with a car to come and rescue us

I was just thinking that probably what they call Tignes 1800, rather than Les Boisses, is probably closest by the winter road to Les Brevieres. Les Boisses, at 1850, is the end of the free ski bus route, and it's by the piste down to Les Brevieres, but I think the new development at 1800 might be closer to the main road. I am sure that they're both much closer to Les Brevieres by road, than Le Lac is.

I will think about it and have a look at a road map.

And I was going to suggest, anyway, that we tell each other our mobile phone numbers before we go, so that if anyone gets stuck or whatever we can help each other.

If Andy and Catp and I get held up somewhere so that we can't get to Les Boisses before 5 p.m. then we could try ringing all those of you with cars and hope that one of you has arrived at the chalet and is prepared to come to the rescue and give us a lift back to the chalet!

We will probably be very tired after carrying out all this essential research on the mountain restaurants!

And if we can't get an answer from any of you then we will just have to get a taxi! There seem to be at least a couple of taxi firms in Les Brevieres. I will find out what their phone numbers are and put them on my phone.

I tried to find out how far it was from the new Tignes 1800 development, where there is a bus stop for the free ski bus from Le Lac, to Les Brevieres using one of the route finder websites. And it was very annoying, but also quite amusing, because I tried 2 different websites and they both insisted on trying to make me go down what I know perfectly well is a blue piste in the winter!

In the winter the direct route between Tignes Les Boisses and Les Brevieres is closed, and you have to go back out to the main road, over the dam and back round.

Old Andy found out somehow, and he says it's 6km going the winter route. And I phoned the Les Brevieres tourist people and they said it takes between 5 and 10 minutes. I've also got the number of a Les Brevieres taxi firm now and it shouldn't cost more than about 20 euros, so we should be OK even if it is dark by the time we've finished our epic 'pub crawl on skis'

Old Andy and I have booked our bus tickets now from Bourg station up to Les Brevieres with Altibus on Sunday morning.

I had to buy a single ticket - total price about 12 euros, and the bus leaves at 8-15 a.m. and arrives in Les Brevieres at 8-50. Apparently the bus stop is only about 100 yards from the chalet. A taxi would cost about 80 euros.

The Altibus tickets are rather strange. I have also bought a ticket from Les Brevieres to Geneva, for my return on the following Sunday evening. But it's not actually a ticket. What I have is a reservation e-mail and I have to take it to the bus station in resort at least 48 before I leave and exchange it for a real ticket.

I was talking to someone once, on another ski holiday, who'd forgotten to do this and he had to watch the bus drive away and then pay a fortune for a taxi! I assume they do it because lots of people don't show up and then they can re-sell their tickets.

So, I will have to remember to go to their office, which is in the Maison de Tignes building in Le Lac and exchange the e-mail for a real ticket.

There's a photo of it on here - it's a huge building with various activities going on inside it:
