Your point, I assume, is that the cost of manufacturing these items means that even the reduced price is massively profitable. Probably correct, but who cares.
Getting a bargain, ie £500 jacket down to £150, if you've got the money to spend on it and enjoy looking good whilst skiing, makes people feel good.
Those of you who prefer the cheaper brands, not such cutting edge styling, feel free. Blue/white/black jackets with cheap nasty shiny sallopettes may be the en vogue look in Niederau for the over 70's I guess
Sounds like you want one, so are you going the whole hog?

When the maths seem to be "Down from £500 to £150", is the truth ~ "Down from £50 to £150"?

Norrona is a very good brand, and most Scandinavian brands prefer bright colours. When you are off-piste it may be a good idea not to be dressed in natural colours as your descent should be watched. A Swedish friend of mine skis in a one-piece like that, but he is one of the better skiers on the mountain. If you are looping blue and red groomers it may look a bit out of place. Jacket is quite OK though and you can tone it down with black pants. Quality matters a lot in case of ski jackets. And you probably won't get a better one. Plus colours mean that you won't be doing silly things to your gear like wearing it during off-season so it will last longer. And you will be easily spotted too if someone has to wait for you or the other way around.

I'm considering a new jacket because of the need for gore-tex and loads of breathability. This is not a cheap option.
I tend to get very hot when skiing unless temperatures are lower than say -10. And that's just with a base layer and insulated jacket. I think therefore I'd be happier with an uninsulated gore-tex outer shell, a merino base and a mid layer as and when required. Looking at Norrona, Sweet, Arc'teryx etc.
Interestingly we're off on our 1st european summer holiday for 18 years in August...........to Tuscany. I might not survive.

150 pounds for Norrona jacket is very cheap, I doubt you can get better value for money. Light, weather-proof and durable plus making you stand out from the crowd and don't look like a guy next to you in the lift.
