First point .... don't watch too many vids all the way through because of the over production eg Music, I just think you lose all the atmosphere of a family ski holiday. Don't take that personally everbody seems to add music to their vids at the mo .... I guess apple have a lot to answer for
I did used to add music during the editing process but I decided to go back to basics and even then it was background as I do like to do a bit of chating on my vids.
Now I know you said the ski mounting vid was boring after a couple of mins but I watched that all the way through.

Second point .... I have never worried about "Cool" how can I, I use a hand held video Camera.... Not very cool.

Third point .... after watching the vids I can see that there can be a fair amount of editing required as the camera is fixed as opposed to getting a wider sweep angle with a hand held.

What I have to decide is wether it is a nice to have or a must have... and is it gonna add quality
to my holiday movie ... on that I'm undecided at the moment.
At £300 I could put that money towards a decent new HD vid cam

Music. Well in my case i put the music there as there simply was no other sounds apart from the odd crunch of snow. The GoPro comes with two cases, a fully waterproof (which you need in snow) and a semi protective case. In the full case sound is almost blocked out.

Editing. You can edit as much or as little as you like, i don't see much difference to a standard cam.

Must have. Not really. But i think its nice to get great pics to look back on. I couldn't mount my fuji x10 on a ski pole and no one else was there to take my pics. So i guess for most its just a 'nice to have'

£300. as posted they are much cheaper now.

£300!? I got mine for £160 off Amazon. And the GoPro is a HD vid cam, and incredibly more versatile than a standard hand held one in my opinion.

The time laps options for example, can look amazing when edited correctly.

£271 is the cheapest so far

Personally i don't see the worth in the upgrade mate. The BBC would but for casual users i would say the Hero HD is plenty.

Thats interesting about not picking up the surrounding sounds, I guess operating low down on boot or ski you will need it in the case, more food for thought .... I'm the only one interested out of my lot in videoing they don't even carry my poles for me

In all honesty if it's just casual holiday videos you're using it for I think the standard hero will be more than enough.

From what I've read, the video quality isn't greatly improved on the Hero 2; it's just the user interface. Granted it's fiddly, and takes a while to set up, but once done it needs little intervention on the standard Hero.

Well I've never been a fan of watching any type of home made film as I get pretty bad motion sickness after about 3 mins and I'm surprised how easy that is to watch. I'm converted. Maybe it's because it's on the pole I don't know but it certainly helps...

Great vid, well done
