It's on the right as you come down the blue Santons piste, just before you get into Val d'Isere. So, it's not actually 'up' the top of a mountain, but it is at least at the side of the piste with views of the mountain, and not in a village.
The Santons piste is the one that gave me a nasty surprise when I was ski-ing down it at the end of April. I wouldn't advise anyone who usually sticks to only blue runs to try getting to the restaurant via this route. You can also get there by road from Val on the free bus, 'Le train vert'.
At one point the Santons turns into a steep half-pipe, which was crowded with ski-schools and icy when I was ski-ing down it. My daughter had no problem - she just went straight down it - but I skied it in classic half-pipe style and it was quite difficult to avoid all those who were really struggling with it.
Then it turns into an open schuss, and the final section into Val is pretty flat. This restaurant is situated on the flat section but before you get into the village.
Anyway, I saw it when I was ski-ing past and I thought it looked very nice. And now I've looked it up I can see that the menus are set at a reasonable price as well. Here are some of the cheaper items (all prices in euros).
Homemade beef lasagne = 11.90
Soup of the day = 6.50
Tomato and basil pasta = 12.20
Chips (as a side dish) = 5.70
Mixed salad (as a side dish) = 5.70
