Ade has joined our Facebook holiday group now, so doubtless between us all we will sort out these sorts of queries.

Just before I started organizing this holiday I went to a talk about how to organize local voluntary events, like regattas and carnivals etc., and they said Facebook groups are very good for this and showed us how to make one.

So I made one for this holiday (with some help from my daughter because I never used FB much before that!). It is only for people who are actually booked onto the holiday and it has turned out to be very useful because it means I don't have to individually pm everyone with information and we can discuss things together and get to know each other before we go on the holiday.

And it means we can keep this thread clear for those who are considering coming with us, or just want to read whatever we've posted about the chalet or the Tignes/Val d'Isere ski area.

I bought my bus ticket yesterday to get back from Les Brevieres to Geneva with Altibus/Alpski-bus. It cost me 63 euros one way (about £50) plus whatever my bank has charged me, and I'm catching the 16-20 bus to arrive at Geneva airport at 19-50 for an EasyJet flight leaving at 21-30. The bus is more expensive than the chalet transfer, which only costs £30 each way, but I am ski-ing the final Sunday and the chalet transfer coach leaves at 6-30 a.m. for Geneva.

It will be the first time I've ever skied for 8 days, although I've managed 7 days several times.

Also, the Tignes lift pass website is now open! So, things are really start to wake up and it's getting very exciting. An 8 day adult Tignes and Val d'Isere (Espace Killy) lift pass costs 276 euros (about £220 plus bank charges).

Bonjour are very generous and welcome guests who want to ski 8 days, like me. They will allow me to arrive in the morning on the first Sunday, change, and leave my luggage whilst I go off ski-ing. And if I get there in time (from Bourg St Maurice) they will even give me breakfast! And ditto for the second Sunday. This is what they say:

All bedrooms must be vacated by 9.30am on departure day. Guests wishing to ski on that day may leave their bags until 4.15pm at the latest but, due to lack of space in the chalets, are kindly requested to leave at or before that time. It will be possible to change in the chalet before then. When possible, a shower may be available, but this cannot be guaranteed and will depend on the arrival times of the incoming guests and whether or not the chalet is full for the forthcoming week. In any case, we ask that the chalet is fully vacated by 4.15pm to enable incoming guests to enjoy their afternoon tea.
Your rooms will be ready from 2pm on the day of your arrival. For those who arrive earlier and wish to ski on the Sunday we will find somewhere for you to change and somewhere to store your luggage. If you arrive in time you are welcome to join us for breakfast.

Ally

I am interested. Do you still have a decent single room?
I will be older than most of the party but have been skiing for over 50 years however a combination of being recently widowed, friends out because of injury or age and some being cash strapped I find myself on my own for the 2013 season.

i am happy that I will be able to keep up with the skiing but the apres ski may beat me

Tom,
If you want to come with us you will be very welcome. Don't worry about your age :D

I think most of us are over 40 - although, naturally, being skiers and snowboarders we don't feel like it!

As Dave said, there are no single rooms in this chalet.

However, there is the possibility of using the twin room 1, or the double room 2 (both on the ground floor) as singles, but there would be a single occupancy charge of £200 on top of the basic £399 for the catered accommodation.

There is also the possibility of sharing the triple room 14 with Tiger7 who is looking for a male room mate to share with. He says he doesn't mind whether they are a smoker or non-smoker, and he himself counts as a non-smoker because he smokes very rarely. Room number 14 is a triple room on the second floor with a balcony (for which he and any potential room mate will have to pay an extra £20 each on top of the basic £399 for the catered accommodation).

Bonjour's room description for room 14 says this:
'A triple, 2nd floor bedroom, on two levels, with an en-suite bathroom with shower. On one floor there is the bathroom, a single bed and French windows leading to the balcony. The mezzanine floor has twin beds. The steep stairs leading to this room make it unsuitable for younger children'

We have now booked 10 rooms but there are still 5 rooms available, which are:
Ground floor
Room 1 - twin room
Room 2 - double room

First Floor
Room 5 - quad room made up of twin beds and a bunk bed
Room 9 - family suite for 4 people in 2 rooms made up of twin beds and a bunk bed.
Room 10 - quad room with twin beds and bunk bed and balcony.

Apart from the room share with Tiger7 in room 14 the second floor is now full.

If anyone else wants to come with us, ideally Bonjour would prefer to fill rooms 1 (twin) and 2 (double) on the ground floor before accepting only 2 people in their quad rooms.

If you would like to join us please either post up on here or send me a pm.

I think the hardest part of organizing a DIY ski holiday (once the date and location are sorted) is finding a reasonably priced reliable return transfer from the airport to the accommodation.

Of course, those driving to Tignes from the U.K. or going by train to Bourg St Maurice don't have this problem.

Bonjour advised us to book flights to Geneva even though it's not the closest airport, as they felt there was less chance of flights being diverted due to the weather etc. It is, however, quite a long way from Geneva to Tignes (about 100 miles). Car hire from Geneva is a possibility but it's expensive, and I should think you'd need 4 people in the car for it to be cheaper than the public bus.

Luckily there are several transfer options, amongst which are:

1. The chalet transfer coach is the cheapest option and costs £60 return, but is only suitable for certain flight times which arrive at Geneva before 13-30 on the way out, and depart after 11 a.m. on the way home.

2. The public bus Altibus.com - a return costs 109 euros (about £87).

3. http://www.snowbus.co.uk/
A return with snowbus travelling on Sundays costs £82 and the time it takes seems to vary according to the time of day but it's around 3 hours.

4. http://www.bensbus.co.uk/prices.php

The cost of a return from Geneva to Tignes Les Brevieres with Bens Bus is £74 for Saturday travel and £84 for travelling on Sunday, and it takes between 3 hours 10 minutes and 3 hours 40 minutes.

Luckily the bus stop is quite close to the chalet, and there is also a large, free car park for those driving:
