Tony_H wrote:Well done Karen, thats serious weight loss. How did you diet in order to achieve that, especially without exercise?
Do you have much more to lose, if you dont mind me asking, because if I lost 18lbs I'd be underweight. I'd like to know what you ate, or more to the point what you didn't, in order to lose that much.

Tony i edited the post above to give an example.

my breakfast and dinnner doesnt change, but on a tuesday i go to the mother in laws for dinner which is usually stewing steak and mash and yorkshires and sunday is the usual sunday dinner. the other variant of my dinner is pasta n sauces cheese and broccoli. i know it is so boring lol

and thanks for the compliment. to get to my ideal weight i would need to lose another 3 stone, but to get to a realistic weight i need to lose 2 stone

Karen,
Losing all that weight is quite an achievement - well done

I think 1 Lb a week is quite a sensible amount to lose. When I'm really concentrating on dieting I can lose 2 Lbs a week, but it is very hard work, and I don't think I could do it for long. If you've got a lot of weight to lose I think it's better to only lose a small amount each week, and keep going, like you've done.

I find it very interesting reading about what we all eat, and I suppose it is part of getting fit for ski-ing, so it's not totally off the subject. This is what I generally eat:

Muesli for breakfast
Lunch and tea are both the same - 2 slices of toasted wholemeal bread made into a jaw breaking sandwich with philadelphia cheese and masses of salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, green peppers, spinage or whatever I have in my salad drawer in my fridge)
Supper is wholemeal pasta with veg, or brown rice/basmati rice with veg, jacket potato with veg, vegetable stew with lentils etc. And sometimes I vary it a bit with omelette etc. For pudding I usually have tinned fruit and yoghurt. And my husband gets ham, chicken, corned beef, fish etc. as well.

And I take multivitamins and minerals to make sure I get enough iron etc.

What makes me fat is going totally off the rails and eating cake, crisps, chocolate, a whole bag of pistachio nuts or bombay mix or something like that in addition to the healthy food I always eat.

So at least I know how to lose weight - I just have to cut out all the rubbish (easier said than done though). And, being tea-total, I don't have to worry about how many calories are in a glass of wine, or a pint of beer :D

hi Ally and thanks.

like you I am tea total (well more or less anyway as i very rarely go out and dont see the point fo drinking in the house) so i am saved with those calories. I also take a vitamin summplement as during the week I dont eat much veg, only on Tuesday and sunday lol but i eat a lot of fruit. I am 38 this year and determined not to be fat and forty! lol there is only so long you can say its "baby weight" as my "babys" are 9 and 11 lol.

I am totally determined this time. usually when i am on a diet like if i go to ww, the weigh in night is "treat night" and it is the law to have a kebab or pizza on treat night as well as as many creme eggs you can eat before midnght and i also used to kid myself that i was counting the points in the biscuits i had with my tea, so i suppose it is no wonder previous diets werent that successful but this time........well just watch this space for my "after" photos in about 6 months time (well fingers crossed anyway)

Hi Little Ski,
What are pump classes? And what were you doing on a kids motorbike?

Karen,
I'm sure you can stick at the dieting, you've come such a long way already, and I bet you're enjoying being able to wear your 'smaller' clothes :D

I'm looking forward to the photo in 6 months time.

For you diet experts, how good/bad is my diet:

Breakfast - fruit juice and cereal, usually corn flakes with milk, sometimes hot

Lunch - mixed rocket salad with ham and cheese, orange peppers, thousand island dressing OR a bowl of soup OR a tin of Heinz Ravioli

Dinner - white meat with jacket potatoes and mixed salad OR beef stew and mashed potatoes OR sometimes chicken fajitas with salad OR pasta (lagange or tuna pasta and red onions).

I have managed to stabilise at a certain weight, but no matter what I do I cannot go any lower on the above diet.

I'd immediately replace the cheese with something else, it's the worst  [and the best ]. This could be all you need to do.

If not, is the 1000 island low calorie? Beef stew is not good. Normal mashed pototoes are not good, I'd go for boiled then mash them up a bit with very low cal mayo. With the fajitas, I make loads of roasted veg like courgette, mushrooms and peppers to mix in so I'm not eating so much chicken and use loads of salsa rather than guacamole.

You don't need to go any lower do you?
