I have been on the Lapland forum a lot of late and people are just coming back with their reviews and prices. That is scary I am either going to come back as skinny as a rake or bankrupt.

The prices in Scandinavia have always on the expensive side, I had a mate in Sweden who used to work a hotel bar, his customers used to come in steaming because they brew their own moon shine and get tanked up before they went out, he used to tell me they were ten times worse than a Saturday night in Norwich. 8)

What hit me more was the fuel prices driving down to Italy from the UK last summer, so my drive to LGB in a couple of weeks time should seem a lot cheaper.

I am not looking forward to filling my car at Euro prices later this month. We need a recovery of the £ pronto.

I shall be mostly cooking in the apartment during the evenings. Good job I like my own cooking :D

not really keeping up with this, but if it helps to get an idea of our prices....

yesterday I had the excellent plat de jour at the Grimentz self service (roast pork in an apple sauce, haricot vertes in little bundles wrapped with a piece of bacon, Gratin Dauphinois and ratatouille) for 19.- chf. A coffee would be about 3.5 chf. The plat de jour is generally good value, a good meal and better value than sandwiches or snacks IMHO.

I have skied the past 4 years in Austria and only got back from Mayrhofen on sunday which is not the cheapest in Austria I have been to. The difference, I was normally paying E 3.20- E 3.80 for a half litre either in the town or on the mountain.
Not to rub it in to much but I had a huge plate full of Vienasnitzel and chips and half litre of lager for E 9.30 on the most expensive mountain bar/restaurant we used. Even with pound being poor against the Euro it still really only reflected London pub prices. Allez Le Austria!!

Drink halfs it would have only been 2.5E.

No you've lost me there!! Perhaps I confused the issue when I said it was 5 Euros a pint which is near as damn it a half litre!! So if it was E5 a half litre in campsite bar I would suggest it would alot more on the French Alps to buy beer, hence my comparing the prices to Austria.
If of course you just meant drink less and spend the same amount, then I might as well not go out at all and be a right bore and save alot. I am not of course advocating that you need to drink to enjoy yourself, but sometimes it helps.
[b]Got to go I've got a meeting to catch!!

I have met an awful lot of people who drink who are very boring, so the two do not go hand in hand, and yes I do get confused very easily, it's an age thing you know
Meribel God i hope you remortgage before you leave.
