I am back making the decision about ski passes for Winter. My boys now both at a good standard, so I am guessing we will stretch our legs further afield. But both the Tirol Snow and Kitzbuhel All star ain't supercheap for the 3 of us......luckily my eldest just sneaks into the cheaper class for one more year.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

We bought the AllStar season passes last year, taking advantage of the early booking offer. We had terrific value from them, and I guess that in your situation, you will do much better.
Still a big hit, though.

They tightened up the rules, and as Austria is not my "Hauptwohnsitz" I get no special deals.

It's complicated 'cos if I buy 2 x Adult passes for Wildschoneau I get the 2 x kids free. But wife will not use her pass so doesn't help very much.

As the boys are better we wanna ski places like SkiWelt and also Zillertal sometimes. The latter is NOT on the Allstar pass.

Ideally I would get the Tirol Snow for all 3 of us. Ouch.

The maths is that we need to ski around 6 full days "outside" of Wildschoneau to make it worth my while for the Allstar or 8 days for the Tirol card.

Last year we didn't, but the 11 year old was a beginner and now he is capable of more. Ho hum.

OK, this has become a cost/benefit calc.

On the comparison that you offer, the Tirol Card is the winner. You have calculated that there is only a 2 day difference between the TC and the KAS. Presumably, the TC also can get you closer towards the Arlberg. However, the addition of the Zillertal alone is enough to justify.

No point in considering the benefits of Alpbachtal because next year, they are likely to be part of a joint pass.

I take it as given, that you cannot utilise the whole of the KAS benefits, as the drive down is too Saalbach/Hinterglemm and Kaprun/Pass Thurn is too far. However with the KAS, you can reasonably reach places like Fieberbrunn ~ arriving Saturday direct? Then back to N. There are a number of other small villages just within day reach. And of course there is Kitz. Reasonable area , acceptable conditions , not managed as well as N. but few places are. Also, the skiwelt has enough good quality skiing for any combination.
We faced the same decision making last year, 2 people, not 3. I managed 13 non-N days skiing from the KAS. Your situation is different.

Actually I disliked the skiing at Kitzbühel, and you are correct that stuff like Saalbach, whilst lovely, is too far really.

Zillertal is an easy drive for me, and has the advantage of a glacier if needed late season, although I am hoping for better snow this year and that I will have had enough by April!!!

So yeah.......my choice is either €600 for 4 passes at Wildschoneau and then just stump up €80 per day when I venture further afield. Or go for the Tirol pass and ignore the costs :-)

Slightly tricky as Auffach is only 10 mins away and provides a good choice on my regular pass. Still undecided. Shame I cannot get a discounted rate!!
