Hi there,
I've just come back from Pas de la casa and one of my party was 74 he started skiing last year and he has only had 12 days of actual skiing. We had him on red runs all week. I was amazed so dont think age is an issue its all in the mind. You will be fine get some lessons learn the basics and enjoy the experience. You will never know if you don't try :) good luck!

Now that's interesting, taking my mum (73) to the Dolomites next year when we go.... I thought winter walking and maybe some snowshoeing would be her limits....

Yup - it was me who started at 59 - I was still playing football then. I have a routine of coming off the slopes straight into a hot bath for a long soak, followed by several glasses of chalet wine. I have never woken next morning with so much as a twinge in joints or muscles. As long as mother is fit, and it sounds as if she is, there should be no problem. I had a few dry slope lessons before my first trip, which gave me the confidence that the knees/body could cope and also saved a couple of days of familiarisaton lessons on the slopes. I would never think of taking my mother, but the mental vision of the old bat mother in law hurtling out of control down a black will send me to bed with a smile.

There's more to do in the mountains than skiing :D If someone has an urge to try they should give it a go but if they just want to experience winter in the mountains then snow shoeing might be more fun, it's something you can pick up in a a short while and get straight out doing.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I will speak to her today and maybe look at taking her to Castleford for a lesson or 2.
Think I might try skiing myself next year, I would try this year but have new snowboard gear that I have only used in this country so want to give it a proper run out, but next year could be the year i try 2 planks and not just one.

Just re read, as long as she gets an understanding instructor who can cater exactly to what she needs then that is cool. Would not recommend a group lesson.
