I think Boris made his point about trends in fashion but in the case of the above article the wearing of a helmet saved the authors life.
Has anyone seen Boris at the nudest colony yet.

I decided after poor Natasha Richardsons death that I would still not bother wearing a helmet - I ski mainly on-piste and have never hit my head in 7 years. Imagine my horror when on my first day last year at Easter my ski caught in some slush, propelled me out of them head over heels onto the slope with the impact knocking me out. Mr PSC was behind (he knows his place ) and told me I was babbling on about her accident as I came too. Fortunately I ended up with a little bit of a headache and no other signs of concussion. As a result we are in the Converted to Helmet Wearing Army as opposed to Boris Johnson et al.

This year I observed a very similar accident to my own and the lady had clearly bumped her head on much more hard packed snow. Not trying to ram it down peoples throats obv - just my experience and reasons for wearing one now.

I think all ESF instructors should wear helmets with different dayglo helmet covers similar to these

Good for you. Enjoy your helmet. I cant see the need to be ramming it down peoples throats that they shouldnt not wear one, but each to his own eh?
Now, which hats do I take next week.....?????

Blimey, hit a nerve ) I wasn't ramming it down anyones throat (oo-er obv) just making a point that I bought a helmet and it was OK, on the helmet thread!! Have skied 3 years without one but took the plunge this year. I just simply don't understand the argument for not wearing one, even when I didn't wear one.
You stick to your helmet obv, and I'll stick to my woolly hats, thanks. obv

Will do Mr Tetchy. Another forum user who doesn't like other points of view.

PSC,
I think that's a great idea

I didn't know they made those helmet covers. I rather think there are 170 instructors with the Courchevel ESF 1550. I wonder how many different helmet covers there are?

:D :D :D :D

On a more serious note, I had a nasty surprise like you the first day of my most recent holiday (as described elsewhere) and found myself on my back going head first very fast down a red run. Thinking about it afterwards, I was very glad I was wearing a helmet at the time.

I bet many of us have had similar incidents, but better to have a near miss or non-serious incident to influence our choice rather than regret it later when its too late. Wise words Para.

interesting piece and all, wear a helmet blah blah blah, what I don't agree with is her comment about replacing the helmet after it's taken a knock, blimey that could get expensive
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Copied this image from another forum. The wearer fell and hit the snow (not an object), his shoulder taking the brunt. He was wearing a G meter (it's a carver thing), and found he hit with a force of 4.41Gs. He is buying a new helmet.
