Now, which hats do I take next week.....?????
Tony, no one is ramming it down throats, we all just think that everyone should wear one.
They are cool and offer protection and warmth.
Personally I think that you shouldn't knock it till you have tried it.
Know what I mean old pal?
Blimey, hit a nerve ) I wasn't ramming it down anyones throat (oo-er obv) just making a point that I bought a helmet and it was OK, on the helmet thread!! Have skied 3 years without one but took the plunge this year. I just simply don't understand the argument for not wearing one, even when I didn't wear one.
Thanks for that Bandit,
I'm amazed that guy kept ski-ing, when he knew he had concussion after his fall. He is very lucky to be okay.
I did a quick helmet count, standing in one of the lift queues in Courchevel, and I reckon about 50% of the people in that queue were wearing helmets. It's a bit difficult to get an unbiased sample, because nearly all the kids were wearing one, but none of the ESF instructors were.
I'm surprised they haven't made it compulsory for the instructors - I would have thought it would encourage their adult pupils to wear one. Maybe the ESF don't believe that wearing a helmet reduces one's chance of a serious head injury, or else perhaps they can't persuade their instructors to give up their beloved woolly hats. However good the instructors are at ski-ing they can still take a tumble - in fact one of my instructors did last year ski-ing ahead of us at the side of the piste in powder when she hit a rock hidden in the snow. She was just lucky her head didn't hit a rock as well.
I must say, it definitely helps one to follow the right instructor when they're wearing different coloured woolly hats, especially at piste junctions :D
It would be a lot harder if they were all wearing identical ESF helmets - unless they attached individual mascots to the top of their helmets - like teddy bears or something

Good for you. Enjoy your helmet. I cant see the need to be ramming it down peoples throats that they shouldnt not wear one, but each to his own eh?catford wrote:Both me OH had helmets this year for the first time. This is the counter to Boris Johnson's recent piece on ski helmet wearing.
