Started the day in fine style meeting Mr and Mrs Caron-a for our trip on the Big Orange Ski Bus from Gatwick. I'd not flown into Innsbruck before so that was cool - has to be one of the most impressive approaches, through the mountains, to any airport anywhere and a great way to start a ski hol. Off the plane, no Q for passports and barely time for a wee visit before the bags were out and off we went.

Collected by Mr and Mrs Jan within 15 minutes of getting off the plane and then whisked up to Niederau.

The Auhof is an impressive and tastefully appointed apartment house "on the sunny side" with great views across to Niederau's pistes (partly obscured by falling snow as I'm writing this - yay!). Top hospitality - we were all made to feel very welcome from the word go. 8)

Had a fine afternoon's skiing - trying to keep up with Dave Mac (who is pretty darn quick for any age of skier - Tony H take note) and was delighted to see Caron-a's first post-injury runs ending with smiles!

Will post more with some pics later.

That wasn't what we meant when we said you skied like the wind...

You must have rear-view mirrors Dave... 8)

I can confirm that Dave The Legend Mac doppler-shifts from blue to red as he passes at light speed...

Snow now falling quite heavily - should be lots of soft by the end of the day and freshies tomorrow! :D :D :D

Glad to hear its been good Dave.
Innsbruck in good weather is a fantastic approach, snow and peaks each side of the plane as it flies down the valley - breathtaking.
Jan appears to have a habit of making everyone very welcome; hes just that kind of guy.
I did warn you Dave Mac was quick!
Why oh why did I start this "Dave Mac = Legend" nonsense?????

Great to hear Caron-a is getting on well. I thought she would love the reds at the top by the T bars, they will do her the power of good.

Are you planning on visiting anywhere else while you are there -I'd be interested to hear your take on Auffach?

Enjoy.

Been snowing all day, and was struggling with the viz. I dont normally wear goggles, so don't have any with me, but they were needed today. Hence I negotiated some from the lost property box in the Kropfraderjochalm.

Another succesful day for Caron, she skied the Mittermoose run several times, even though it was deepish fresh. Her man is very neat, has good basics, and proved during the day to be very adaptable. It was his first time in powder. Caron later also came down the Kropfraderjoch top face, an area that yesterday we negotiated around. (Where I duly earned the title of "B*****d") So big progress for the lady, who has my great admiration for her strength of character, courage and the positive way in which she has returned to skiing.

Caron was also struggling with the viz, so ermm, er, negotiated a cap from the lost property box. That seemed to fix things.

Admin Dave and I had several powder runs, two of which will go into my mental diary, bouncing straight down the fall line, whooping like a pair of 16 year olds. (which indeed we are). Our Dave turns out to be quite a powder hound. We did have one high speed near miss, and if we had wiped out it would have been my fault. Except that he was on my piece of powder, who does he think he is!

Two or three runs down with Jan towards the end of the day, but by then my knee injury was spiking, so although I avoided falling, my skiing was getting out of shape, so finished half an hour early.

It is scheduled to snow all night. Off out to dinner with the J2skiers, and then a visit to the Bichlwirt.

That was my line, dude! 8)

This afternoon brought us a couple of the sort of runs we all live for; Dave (The Legend) Mac and I tucked into the un-tracked by the trees, either side of the piste and just blasting... :D :D :D :D

Tony_H wrote:Admin is a big kid

Fixed that for you...

And a shout out to Ross for the help with the Goggles - the Crowbars are superb; really clear, great contrast and no fogging... sorted.
