From the website for the Grand Massif.

Flaine slopes will be open from December 13th to April 26th 2009.

Les Carroz, Morillon and Samoëns ski areas will be opened from December 19th to April 19th 2009.

And, Sixt Fer à Cheval will open from December 19th to March 6th.

See you soon !

It might be a bit wet lower down, depending on the temps, but you should be fine :D

whereabouts in the Gd Massif? Flaine will be fine, elsewhere the lower runs will be getting a little thin but the area is snow sure, here's some photo's from late April 2005 :

Due to other commitments the holiday will need to be postponed until March. Where can we be confident there is snow in France?

I've looked at so much info on the website, seeing so many different resorts in France, I'm now confused. Our party of four is mixed between intermediate & advanced.

Can you help? :?:

Three vallees is the best place .Courchevel 1650 or la Tania are cheaper but just as good for access as the posh end (1850).I've been at both ends of the season for the last 15 years and never failed to have good skiing.Even whe other resorts report poor snow, 3v's makes and grooms the best snow.the lift pass is probably the most expensive in europe and worth every penny. You get what you pay for.Don't stay in Val Thorens - its like an arctic 'fridge. The skiing is good but easy to get to in less than an hour from most of the other resorts which have far more character, and trees!

Unless you are an absolute expert, Levi/Yllas Lapland, wife and I have been to each resort over the last 2 years in mid-march very different and 100% you have snow

Afternoon all, this is my first post here. Seems like a fun forum...

So, I will start off by saying either the Grand Massif or the Portes du Soleil, as long as you have good access to Flaine/Avoriaz respectively, will be fine in March/April.

Last year, snow depths at the end of March/start of April were greater at 2000 m in the Portes du Soleil than they were at the top of the Tignes area at 3400 m.

I have skied both areas in March and April for the last few years and have never had bad snow cover. Depending on temp, it can get slushy lower down, but then that is often offset by the fact that at the higher resorts sometimes the pistes can stay frozen solid for quite a while.

Swings & roundabouts...

Verbier in late March this year was fantastic. Reasonably cold, sunny, fresh snow most nights. It doesnt get a lot better than that.
