I'm thinking about moving my birthday this year to January 25th

Ian, just do it. The queen has two birthdays. Don't tell your relatives. Just quietly let your ski mates know that you are having a birthday bash in the Bichlwirt, Niederau, 25th Jan. You will get heaps of pressies, free drinks, you can do it every year.

Yes, I know it's a scam, but it works great, trust me.

My Jan b/day is authentic, but 20 odd years ago, at an instant when I was heaps ahead in brownie points, my OH asked what might I like for my b/day. I put on my best soulful look, and said, "A lift pass for Niederau would be nice" It always works! Now it has become a right!

St Anton is not a bad bet for a party and decent snow, you may also want to look at Ischgl,

In general you want to go up and east.

Zermatt or Saas Fee would realy be the only snow sure resorts in Switzerland at that time of year. (maybe Davos)

Andermatt and Engleberg will not have suitable skiing for all levels at this time of year.

Nix.

Hi Emma,

As no one else has suggested it, I'd go for the other side Zermatt - Cervinia in Italy, there's plenty of night life and enough varied terrain to keep all levels occupied - plus you can always ski over to Zermatt for a day.

Depends what you call inexpensive. if your party is all female then head to St. Anton (but not a lot of slopes for beginners). Chamonix has mixture of high altitudes and pistes for all levels (albeit spread out a little that can be a pain), near Geneva and reasonable nightlife depending what area you stay in and can be very inexpensive.
Austria more lively apres (if you like the same euro dross music that seems to be played in most bars) but also more expensive. You might be lucky with a dump just before the trip wherever you go or this year may be the best ever and doesn't matter what resort you book. All hit and miss really when you book 2-4 months in advance.
