Ok,

Well today i tried out three different all mountain skis at Tamworth.

Atomic smoke TI
Atomic Blackeye TI
K2 Rictor

First was the Smokes which were noticeably better than the hire skis but didn't give me any 'wow' factor

The K2's i hated, they had me on my arse twice. I found then hard to turn and the edges seem to catch really easily. Had my skis crossed numerous times.

The blackeyes. Well these were nice. I can't really put my finger on what it was but the just felt comfortable. Easy to turn, quick and very stable as i threw them about (in my limited capacity)

In all honesty i found it very hard to test Skis in the Snowdome. The run is obviously very short and the snow is crap so its quite possible the smokes and K2's would be totally different beasts on the mountain. But from my time there i would have to choose the Blackeye TI's

I didn't buy as i have a code for 2 seasons to get £50 off but may well do in the next few days.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

Sounds like a good day Snapzz.
Here's my two penorth, for what it's worth and I will say up front that I don't categorise myself as an expert on ski hardware - but I have skied a huge number of different skis!
I think you experienced exactly what those three skis are supposed to do.
Smoke's - a nice gentle imtermediate ski. Better than a general beginners hire ski and would probably be a reasonable choice (cheeper than the others?)
K2 - a technical ski, not very forgiving, will catch an edge if your not careful.
Blackeye - an expert all mountain ski that is quite forgiving.
Which sounds pretty much what you experienced.

Tamworth snow is not the most forgiving. Memories of getting some Salomon Axe Cleaver's out on test, and being told to keep em straight until the bend. They were more like Blades too, but with massive carving plates.

Good choice of ski Snapzzz

Hmmm, putting it like that i think your damn right.

The Smokes were about £80 cheaper but i am not the type of person to 'make do' just to save a few quid. I think the Blackeyes will see me through a good number of years and i am pleased with my decision.

I have had a look online and found that i could get them (with my discount) for £475 from Two Seasons but i was concerned with setting them up and having them prepped for their first run out.
Where as Edge and Wax offer a full set up and wax with new skis but they are £525. But as im always a little cheeky i asked them if they would match my Two Seasons offer and to my surprise they said yes AND they would give me a set of Nomad poles for free too!!!! Thats good service.

So they are ordered. Can't wait.

Just need a bag now.

Top Tip
Carpet skiing down the stairs does not work!
You'll have to be patient until the snow.

And try not to be tempted to take them down the local hill when we get a dump of snow in December )
