I've just posted a question in the Ski Technique section about carving on my old fashioned skis. Surely I can't be the only person on this forum who feels most comfortable in "straight" skis rather than trendy carvers? As well as trying to carve on them I am fond of the fast stuff too and my Volkl P11s seem just right for the job. My husband has a pair of racing style skis and won't swap them for anything but he wouldn't know a carve if it cut him up and prefers fast downhill stuff.

Is anyone on here willing to admit that they still use straight skis or am I on my own here? And, is there anyone who has resisted buying/hiring carvers because they prefer a straight ski?

Snowcheeks, have you tried a comparable modern ski to judge the difference?

I think I have a couple of pairs of straight skis if you want to add to your collection. Both K2's. Some TRC's and the original Extremes, both in 190.

I saw a pair of Head skinnys 210 in a charity shop.

I was tempted to buy them for some old school jollies until I saw the price - £150!

If they weren't the price of new skis (in a sale) I may have considered it.

When I spoke to the old dear behind the counter and explained (politely) that they were over priced and not exactly the most up to date gear, she told me (not so politely) that I didn't know what I was talking about. Bless her.

I wouldn't mind trying out a pair of skinny straights but to be honest I remeber the first time I got a pair of carvers to work properly - big cheesy grins and lots of whooping as I went down the hill.

Perhaps there is a niche in the market for a skinny ski producer.

Many moons ago, I briefly used a pair of Salomon Equipe 9000 1S in 203. They were a bit quick.....and long, after my 190's
