Many years ago when I started skiing, there was generally just the one type of ski sock - the tube. Totally impractical for me now, and highly uncomfortable, I've now been wearing the same socks (of which I have only two pairs, and they do get washed daily) for the whole week.

So I'm after some new ones, but I only like the REALLY thin kind, so can anyone recommend a brand/website/handy shop in La Plagne where I might get some?

I try to buy a new pair every year, so my collection is growing (I am too lazy to wash them every night so I take enough for a new pair every day).

I bought a rather snazzy grey and black pair with silver sparkly bits in La Plagne last year. It was in the ski hire shop nearest to the little supermarket in Plagne Centre on the ground floor. They are quite thin.

Sorry Nelly that I can't be more helpful!!

TK are still stocking Merino wool socks for under £10 for 2 pairs. They were Horizon branded. I have 4 pairs of these and they are very comfortable.

I have also worn Smartwool socks for the first time this year and never had so many problems with my feet in one day. Itching, sore ankle bones, etc. I will not be be wearing them again!

However, I find the most comfortable socks are Falke. They do all different types but the best are definitely the thinner ones with padding on the shins, top of the foot, and around the ankle. I think I got them in S&R in the sale but you can get them anywhere, online as well.

Any decent skiwear shop should sell the really thin socks.

I've got various from K2 and Salomon; the latter being better quality IMO. I think they're the "Race Pro" series and are thin with reinforcement in the right places. Found them in TKMaxx IIRC. 8)

I agree about Falke - lovely.

Bought several pairs/types etc from these people.

They tell you the thickness and length (another important point) for each type of sock. When I needed help on best for a size 13 their people on the phone were knowledgeable and helpful.

I suppose someone has to be obsessive about socks!
