No local weather station predicts any significant dumps of snow any time soon. Maybe a dusting, but that doesn't count. I will stick with what people in resort say - nothing until January... In this way, expectations are low and if snow falls earlier it will be a great bonus. Pistes are slowly getting in good shape, so this will have to do.

How come the snow forecasts only seem to get worse? 50cm of snow becomes 5cm then it's 1 cm then it's sunny. Not blaming the forecasters, just wondering if it is possible for the forecasts to go the other way? Preferably in the next week or so.

Looking to go to Alpe d'Huez ( 1800 - ski in / out ) in early Jan.

Looking for some snow / no rocks.

Is this a good bet - glacier skiing available!??

i just cant look anymore, the 4 weeks (i got plenty of time before i ski) has now dropped to just over 2 and its still grim. The forecasts seem like a wish list that's updated with a dose of reality once the forecasters coffee kicks in. I am still clinging to the fact that in Australia this year it was green two weeks into the season start and 4 days before an epic weekend of fresh snow so all it takes is that one big dump to kick start the season.

Good to see some of us are realistic about the poor snow conditions. It seems incredible that the vdi lovers on j2ski seem to think everything is rosie.Yes a forecast of around 20-30cm for next thurs/fri might get us all excited,but as it draws closer,will it be 10 or 5 or 1cm.Snow cannons are great it you stick to the piste,but if you want a little extra fun 5-10cm of snow over rocks and tree stumps is a no go in my book.If we get a few back to back mild sunny days it'll be another 10cm of base gone.

All i want for Xmas is -10c and 50cm ( I could have asked for 100cm,but that would just be greedy :D )
