Eek! Looked quite a shallow slope from the vid and a good reminder that even fairly benign looking terrain can be lethal with the wrong snow pack.

That reminds me - have to do some trading to get a new transceiver onto Santa's list!

For anyone that knows Tignes, it's the little off piste bit down from the eye of the needle. Far from extreme, it's one of those slopes you choose for an intro to off piste. It's lift served and very popular.

Very stony underneath that slope in Tignes. Not much for the snow to stick to, if it's too dry. Of course, it's only a little off piste as well, what could go wrong  They were most fortunate to be dug out uninjured.

Scuba, the guy skiing, ended up buried up to his waist. He managed to stay on his skis until the last moment and as he fell the camera got ripped off so it looks worse on film.
Pete, the guy he skied past, got carried by the very edge of the slide for about 50 meters but didn't get buried.
I've seen the unedited film, the camera keeps recording. It stays dark for just a few minutes, it feels like forever.
All they lost that day was a single ski, could easily lost their lives.

Forecast from Austria this morning: mild and sunny weather to continue. No change likely until the end of the month, at the earliest. Grrrrr!
