Hey I am interested in perusing skiing as a hobby, but wanted to clarify some questions I have, so was hoping if anyone could help.

Firstly would it be better to buy a quality set of ski's or a cheaper version until I get use to the sport.

Also I found this website where it gives all the sites that have artificial ski slopes (http://www.ifyouski.com/ski-extras/more/dry-ski-slopes.aspx) and was wondering would you recommend this for a beginner as myself, so that when I go on a skiing trip I spend less time on the floor.

I would be grateful for any help, thanks.

Better renting straight off. If anything boots should be purchased but at absolute beginner level aren't essential.

Dry slope would be good to get you going, indoor on real snow would be a lot better.

Personal choice really. You will probably improve a lot quicker with 1 - 2 -1 attention, on the other hand, a lot of people like having a group and it is a bit more social. Price is a factor too - group lessons are genuinely a lot cheaper.

Also with a group you can see the mistakes of others and hopefully learn from them.

Don't buy any equipment until you're hooked, and definitely don't buy skis that are too advanced for your ability as you won't be able to handle them.

Enjoy!

I'd definitely recommend a dry slope for practice and lessons for a beginner. There's nothing like having the initial 'complexities' explained in your own language.

Boots should be your first major kit purchase, but only when you are hooked. Skis can wait a bit longer....

I would also reconmend getting lessons on a dry slope. just to even get the basics down good. Over in England, wales and scotland there are many different ski centres. Far more then in Ireland(2 centres), so a couple of lessons wont do any harm

A helmet should be the first bit of kit you should buy,or risk the wraith of the forum
