lyon airport - good for skiers?

Too many years, and it reminds me of how ancient I am. Seriously, it now looks like there are 3 proper terminals, the shops look smart, and the website works. What more could a traveller hope for :D
There is more than one airport for Lyon too! So make sure you know which one you're going to... that used to be easy but given the propensity of certain airlines to use obscure airports, it's worth checking.

Hello, i usually fly into Geneva or Grenoble airport to begin my ski holidays, but now there's convenient nonstop flight to Lyon. Has any used Lyon Airport? Is it good for skiers? Is the transport access to the sky resorts hassle-free? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome to J2ski :D I think there is more than 1 terminal in Lyon airport. When I was last there I vowed never to return, because of the sheer volume of skiers crammed into the charter terminal, which was (at that time) a large French temporary building aka tent. I hope that conditions have improved and look forward to hearing from other forum users with recent experience there. The memory gives me the shivers!
If you are flying packaged, your onward transport should hopefully be organised by the T.Op.
There is a bus service from the airport serving ski stations.

The last time we used Lyon we also were herded into the massive tent thing - must be about 10 years ago? We decided to avoid Lyon after that but I believe things have changed. I am not prepared to find out however )

Things haven't changed at Lyon Satalas airport; it's ok if you're on a scheduled flight and in the main terminals. However, the tent thing is used for Saturday charters and is horrendous. I'd fly anywhere rather than Lyon on a charter.

We did it last year, big airport, flew in with BMI and the handling of bags etc was fine. Getting out to the free bus was a long walk across the airport and then a 1 km ride to the car hire. Took myself and left family holdin bags, came back only get 10 minutes to pick up and leave before they charge you, not easy with the problem of finding a parking spot and loading if your dependants aren't quite up to the game. Would be very different if alone. The return was the big trek across the airport again cos of returning the car, this time with all the bags and family. Bit of a sweat.
