From the "Old Git's Club" thread.......

I bought a new pair of skis last Friday. I realise this is a wanton waste of money. Especially, since my 12 year old K2s were just worn in. (3~6 weeks per season) And when buying the K2s, I traded in a pair of Blizzard Firebirds, just 26 years after procuring them.

Also just bought a new jacket, there was hardly a mark on the 10 year old one. Might have to change the avatar!

Beans...Spill.......

What did you buy? Does this mean that you have gone all modern and short on your planks? :D

Tony, a company called igneous actually still makes full wood skis.. or as close to it as they can manage.

Very highly thought of: http://www.igneousskis.com/

Looks like DaveD has done the same too:

Now I like to go to areas that offer discounts to the 60+s...makes me feel very superior...but then I have just bought a new pair of skis and then I tore a ligament or 2 going too fast in The 3 Valleys so maybe I don't qualify

They are still used a lot in Finland, when visiting huskie and reindeer farms all owned by traditional Sami people they all used them. I thought they were just used as museum pieces, but they said that was there normal ski. Not just for downhill but to get around their large farms to tend to their animals, x country I suppose

Definitely not.

I guess I'm gonna need lots of these~  , to get through this thread.

They are just my style of ski. Lots of torsionsal stiffness, so I can trust them, not carvers, have to be skiied hard to make a turn, all grey and shiny. Six year old stock, but brand new. £49.00.

Volkl Vertigo G2. length 188, so yes, have gone shorter!

Feel a bit of a spendthrift really.
