Can anyone recommend some good slopes for beginners in Saalbach Hinterglemm :?: We are in the low intermediate category and will be staying at Hinterglemm.

Try ones with snow on them. If you are lucky enough to find any, that is.
Without sounding like a total male chicken, my mate was there last January and he wasnt able to ski for 3 days as the snow had melted. I think it was a combination of low altitude and lots of rain in warm temperatures, but many runs had turned into rivers of mud.
I hope this year will be better for you.

Hi Geoff,
Was in Saalbach Hinterglemm for 2 weeks last March and the snow was incredible. I also stayed in Hinterglem and there were some good shorter blue runs on the left hand side (the side where floodlit night slope and snow park are). If you get the first big bubble lift (Westgipfelbahn) on the same side and ski over the top to the other side of the mountain there is an excellent 14km blue run that takes you back to Vorderglemm (Blue #7) and some good red runs too.
To be honest, it was all pretty good and well linked together so you shouldnt have problems finding runs to suit you.

I went out last January - there wasn't a problem with snow, although with this resort you're best to get out early as the piste tends to get pretty icy later in the day. I snowboard, so my criteria may be slightly different to a skier but I'd recommend the family run 32a right at the top of Reiterkogelbahn gondola, you can extend this run out by grabbing the chair lift up to run 32. If you take run 28 from that same chair lift you can take a nice round trip around the blue runs, stop off for some lunch and back down to Hinterglemm.

I've never been there but understand it can be a very positive experience.
A couple of years ago, an early morning skier at Martcok (Nova Scotia) was really pumped because he had just spent a week there. It was less expensive to leave this side of the Atlantic and spend a week there that it was for him to go to the western Canadian resorts.
He really liked the entire place and thought it was so "cool" to be able to ski a bit and stop into a mountain side pub at various locations on the way back down. However, I think he said something about the temperature variations being somewhat extreme.
From what he told me, Sallbach Hinterglemm is on my short list of ski destinations when I have the opportunity to cross the pond.

Serious party town with loads of bars in the streets playing Europop/DJ Otzi (help!) and oompah from about 3pm each day.
Loads of intermediate skiing accessible from both sidesof the valley from Hinterglemm (which is much handier than Saalbach).

Funnily enough I was just looking at the area on the internet.
Check this link and click on the interactive map.
