In the last couple days gas has finally dropped back below $3/Gal around here  , from a high of about $4.45 about 6 months ago :( . It is so nice to be able to fill up a car for ~$30 instead of ~$50. The way the barrel has dropped I am hoping for as low as $2.50/Gal. That will save me $10+ every day I go skiing, It is about 110 miles away.
Just thought I'd share my Joy

Gas under $3/gallon :) :) :)

Ouch that would hurt. From what I hear, our base price for gas/petrol is very close, you guys pay a LOT more in taxes which is the main reason for the price difference. I am not saying that the benefit you get from the taxes aren't worth it, but that would hurt when filling up.

When petrol went up my husband said we had to sell our gas guzzler (hilux surf).........so what did he change it for..........a subaru Imprezza. Dont think that quite worked, still at least petrol has come down now.

When it comes to petrol, the big diference between the US and the UK is not so much the cost (which is a huge difference), but that when the price goes up in the UK, it stays up mostly. In the US the price always falls back down. So as Brad says, our price has dropped over thirty percent from it's peak two months ago. We're paying about 38p a litre now.
One of my biggest follies when I lived in the UK was buying a Corvette. I think I only ever filled it up once

I owe the world a big apology.
Recently sold my old 4.6 liter Range Rover, £2k/yr average maintenance cost, 15mpg. My first tankful cost £82.00 :(
Carbon footprint, don't even go there.
So, bought a 6 month old 3.2 litre Freelander. Course it has all the up to date whizmos, ejector seats, headlights that point to the right, when you cross the channel ferry, you get the picture. Totally over the top. It's better equipped than my house. At one point, I considered moving in!
The one feature, that captures my Lancashire/Scottish soul is the MPG readout. So, we go on a 500 mile journey, I'm on cruise control steady 58 miles per hour, light toe touch, cruising up to junctions, five mile queue behind me. At the end of my stint, it's reading 30.1mpg. Result! Then my frau takes over, and I grab some ski-dream sleep. Waking at the journey end, double shock// horror ~~ 22mpg!!
"Don't say anything", says she, who must be obeyed at all times, chucking the car keys over, "You drive like an old man"
