I don't know how I do it, but every time I go skiing for a week I seem to rip my ski-gloves to shreds. Can anyone advise me on a pair of womens' gloves which might survive ten days of skiing? They also need to be really warm (poor circulation means I lose the feeling in my fingertips), waterproof and small - I have ridiculously small hands, and they need to be very, very hard-wearing! Thanks ever so muchly!!

Hi

what on earth are you doing in these gloves, climbing the rock face of the mountains?!

I haven't got any particular recommendation as to make etc. but if you've got small hands and the ladies small size is too big it might be an idea to try a children's size, but my main recommendation is to shop at TK Maxx where everything is generally half the price of the ski shops so at least you're not spending so much until you find a pair that suits you. I buy all mine and the family's ski gear there and never had any probelms with quality or durability.

Can't recommend a specific model... but how do you hold your skis? Well serviced skis have sharp edges and if you pick your skis up by grabbing across the ski (so your fingers wrap around the edges) then you will tend to slice up your gloves; just a thought.

For warmth; have you tried silk inner-gloves (available at many ski shops)? They can help immensely. You can also buy mittens to wear over the gloves too, which might work well with small hands.

half piste, Unless you rest skis on your shoulder probably the next easiet way of holding skis is the way Admin described but unfortunatly gloves will be cut up if the skis have sharp edges. I eventually realised this when I noticed my own gloves had cuts after only two weeks of use. So I avoid holding skis like that anymore.

For cold hands the usual remedy is to wear an extra glove liner and/or wear mitts because the fingers are together so sharing body heat. For extra durability gloves/mitts with leather palms and fingers are more durable imo. However sharp edges will still cut leather, just might take a bit longer.

If you want something expensive you might like these

Leather gloves are more hard wearing too.

I bought Mrs H a pair of Reusch mittens with inner gloves for £25 in TK Maxx at the weekend. They were in the mens section, but were a size 7 so no man I know would ever get into them. RRP £75. Result.

I've got the lot when it comes to keeping hands warm as I suffer too. You really can't beat the hand warmers (you've got to shake them for quite a few minutes), in fact they're so warm that I have to put them between my silk liners and the gloves otherwise they burn the skin. Also, I wear mittens rather than gloves so you can clench your fists around the warmers :D
