hi everybody. i live in argentina and i'm 20 years old. My parents are travelling to italy next month so they offered to buy me a pair of skis (in argentina skis are much more expensive).
anyway, i was hoping you could help find the right ones because i have no idea in ski purchasing. this would be my first pair of skis.
i'm an intermediate-advanced all-moountain skier. I was looking for something not too expensive and that i can hang on to for a couple of years. i mean, i do not wan't some learning skis, but some advanced skis for eventually i will become advanced. so, if you could please recommend me some skis for 400-600 dollars (including bindings) it would be great.
thank you very much!
can you recommend me some skis please?

hi There,
I have just done a great deal of research on this myself as I have just bought new skis. I bought the stockli stormrider DP Pros but I suggest you look at the stockli stormrider xl or the TT The are all great skis I think out your way you can also get the Scott Schmidts as well I'd have a look at all of the Stockli freeride skis if I were you.
http://www.stockli.com/If that doesn't tickle your fancy havve a look at the K2 Seth or the K2 public Enemy http://www.k2skis.com/skis/compare/default.asp
obviously don't take my word or anyone elses for it though read all of the reviews on the skis and get the ones that are right for you, if you can try a pair before you make your decision even better. I am over the moon with my purchase so I would deffinately reccomend the Stockli Stormrider DP Pro first,
Cheers

I am in love with my Volkl Supersport S4. Another one in your price range is the Fischer AMC series. My brother has the AMC 73, and he thinks they are great. My suspicion is: Most every manufacturer has a decent all mountain ski. So pick the one that fits your budget and personal taste. :) If you know some particular characteristics you want in your skis, then, maybe, there is a brand that would be better suited to you. But if you are like me, and don't know exactly what you want, I think you will be happy with whatever ski you decide to buy.
Good Luck!

I bought my Stockli stormrider DPs from St Anton Austria Sport Jennenwein. I couldn't get a good price in the UK so I called them and they posted them to me. Including postage and bindings 830 Euro which is an Awesome price.
I also saw some good prices on Ebay for the XLs Scott Scmidt and the DPs
The Stocklis are very well priced for what they are remember they are all hand made skis
Cheers

I'm guessing you are talking about US dollars. In which case, thats 300 to 450 Euros. The advantage you have is that (I think) they would be able to claim the VAT back because they don't live in Europe. That's a 20 per cent saving. They would have to check that the store can do this transaction and be confident that the store will actually refund the vat when they receive the paperwork.
If they were stopping over in the US, they might find much better deals.
I would sugest they take a ski bag and remove any stickers/tags from the skis so they don't get hit with taxes on the way back.
all very iffy

You shouldn't buy ski's just on recommendations from others.
You have to actually try them on the snow to see which works best for your ability and terrain. All the skis that I own were demos that I actually skied on, liked and then bought cheap. Bariloche has many ski shops where you can demo skis and then buy them afterwards and have the price of the rental applied to the purchase price. The best time to do that would be at the end of August near the end of the season in Argentina. The ski shops are always willing to unload their current stock of skis to make room for next years models. Ski's are not much of a bargain in Europe given the strength of the Euro against the US Dollar and especially against the Argentinian Peso. Also, if you travel by air with the skis outside of the ski season in Europe, you may get hit with an oversize baggage charge which averages 75 euros now. Customs is also very strict in Buenos Aires and you may get hit with a duty charge on expensive, new skis. Good luck.
I'll be in Bariloche in June.
