Hi folks,
Due to my work schedule we will be going for a week to Soll in January and are also looking to go Austria for another week starting 17th March.
Any reccomendations for March, we are thinking about maybe St Anton, Zurs, Obergurgal, Hochgurgl, Zell am Zee or Ischgl. Any help appreciated :?: :?: :P

He definitely said Austria.

I'd look at Hintertux near Mayrhofen, Solden, Ischgl and St Anton/Lech.

In fact I'm off to St Anton on 3rd March and traditionally they have the most snow in their season at this time.

You said "we"? St.Anton is considered more kinda hardcore so you get packs of feral males....they outnumber women about 10 to 1. Good for skiing but every night is a stag night. May or may not suit but nice steep slopes etc.

Ischgl I love. The run home gets packed, icy, crowded etc - but I still love it. Easier skiing but still a big area really for a week.

Zell Am See. It's OK. Been quite a bit but not a huge ski area so not wild about it myself anymore.

Lech-Zürs is quieter and posher. Means you can still access the St.Anton skiing but feels like an old people's home sometimes.

OP you should be fine in any of those although Zell is low altitude but you have the Kaprun glacier if things are a bit sketchy (they really shouldn't be at that time of year) I find it a bit laughable after 20 odd years of skiing some people avoid the lower altitude resorts in Austria like the plague, I've skied in May in Saalbach and had glorious conditions-my love of slush is only bested by my love of deep powder though…..

If you haven't already realised there'll be a bit of a difference price wise unless you plan to book independently. Zurs and Lech will be pricey regardless as they're very upmarket-Lech is a bit nice than Zurs IMO all things being equal. St Anton trumps Ischgl for off piste but vice versa for on piste IMO both have rowdy Apres. Obergurgal and Hochgurgl also a bit more upmarket, quieter and better for families (not sure on your travel group).

Zell is beautiful but the skiing is limited both in size and challenge if you're a high intermediate or advanced. TBH you could consider lots of others depends on your ability, requirements, budget. All the above minus Zell perhaps are as snow sure as you'll get for Austria-you may also want to consider Solden-can get a pass which incorporates Obergurgal etc too.

I'll be in St Anton the last week of March.

Thats what I've been reliably told about Ischgl and Solden, ie full of Dutch and German all male groups intent on partying.
I've done St Anton once before and never had a problem with the apres scene, and we had a mixed group. Its lively and theres plenty to go at, but I wouldnt say "stag night every night" was fair. I think its mild compared to what goes on in Hinterglemm/Saalbach!

I'd have considered Ischgl as a good option for March due to its altitude and snow record.

Ischgl, Lech, Obergurgl. I think you'll have a fab time at any of them in March!

When I said "stag night" I did not mean outrageous behaviour. More like walking into a Western Saloon bar in the movies.....all heads turn towards the swing doors to see if it could just possibly be something in a skirt.

Even St.Anton acknowledge the issue and do special deals to try and encourage a few more ladies to go.

The politically incorrect truth is that men like the challenging skiing offered by the steep slopes and off-piste of St.Anton, whereas the *majority* of girls have a more Bridget Jones attitude to their skiing.

(actually the hotel in the 2nd movie with skiing is in Lech)
