Doing a lot of 1 legs squats throughout day but ultimate strength totally disappeared! Started again lifting 35% on Squat and 40% on Dead Lift, when compared to pre-surgery. Long way still to go and winter is coming fast. Minimum 3.5months to drag body out this hole.

For sure in part conditioning was a contributing factor to injury. No time to lose would be my suggestion for those skiing in Dec-Jan.

Ranchero - it sounds like you've had a pretty rough time. I've forgotten - was this a ski injury and what happened? Best of luck with getting fit again for the coming season :D

BB - I thought you kept yourself fit all year round? Anyway - going out on a mountain bike sounds like pretty good exercise.

My get fit training yesterday was going to a theme park and walking up about a zillion stairs to go down loads of rides - there was practically no queueing because it's out of season now. The roller coaster reminded me a tiny bit of carving really fast, and feeling horribly sick on a little kids ride made me question the wisdom of buying a ticket on the coach for a 3 hour transfer. I think I will see if I can buy one/several of those 'special' bags!

My weight loss program is going OK (have to lose a stone) othrwise those ski pants are going to take the strain

I only have 4 pounds to go now :D

But keeping it off may be a bigger challenge :(

I have yet to get back on the torture machine (cross trainer) to get those leg muscles strengthened. Otherwise I won't stand a chance of keeping up with Ally in Tignes

bandit wrote:I am on a Chocolate Diet 8)

In my case, I quit smoking on July 4th, but the side-effect was replacing my daily cigarettes with numerous servings of various chocolate-based 'nutritional' items. Consequently, I managed to smoothly gain about 17 lbs in 13.5 weeks!!

And now I just finished patiently reading this entire thread, because I am on a mission to find any reasonable method to reverse the above described process. ... and, to accomplish that with the same progress-ratio: Namely loose those 17 lbs that I gained in almost 14 weeks, during the exactly 14 weeks left till my first day of ski in Tignes! (...and, w/o starting to smoke again  )

My sympathy and good luck wishes go to everybody reading this who is on the same fitness recovery journey!!!

(and this being said, my next move is to send a PM to daved for more detailed info about his diet  :!: )

catp, going on a "diet" never works for me! I'll just eat what I normally do, and the amount goes up/down according to my mood.

Congratulations on giving up the smoking. Your bod is now free to absorb all the nutrition that cigarettes were blocking. Smaller portions/plate time?
As for Chocolate, make the chocolate small, expensive, daily and only when you can enjoy every piece without rushing -)

Bandit is 100% right, eat less food = weight loss.

I haven't found any miracle cure (and I have looked). The only thing that works for me is simply to reduce what goes in and (if I can be bothered) take more exercise.

And I still have my treats (chocolate is my favourite) but in small doses.

I have also found an ice cream in a wafer hits the spot and it's fairly low cal.

I've stopped eating crap for a while now, 3 years or so. No snacks, no biscuits, no crisps, nothing like pot noodles or junk, and for a while I cut out bread totally, but I do like a bit of thick toast with lemon curd and a cup of tea ;-)

I've also cut down massively on alcohol, so much so that I can hardly drink more than 3-4 drinks now without feeling a bit oo er. Stopped lager as well, I only have G&T or Prosecco these days.

2 months ago I joined a health club and use the gym as well as swim 1km each time I go, which is 3-4 times a week. I do not weigh myself as I no longer have a thing about my weight, as I know in myself and my clothes when theres a problem developing.

The bottom line is: dont drink so much (apart from lots of water), dont eat as much and regulate meals cutting out the rubbish, and exercise little and often. Its amazing how much better you feel with an hour a couple of times a week getting out of breath.
