Hey All,
Heading to the Swiss Alps in May for my 15 yr old to snowboard, and the other three of us to x-county ski.
We will all need to rent as well.

We are driving from the Netherlands so somewhere more nothernly and westernly will mean just a bit less driving.
We wont be skiing the whole time so somewhere good for hiking too. Is the snow good enough in May? -janice

P.S. And did I mention we're on a moderate budget??

Welcome to J2ski :D Engelberg might be a good place for you, it's open until May, though you should really contact the resort to check on the exact opening dates. The x-c track is at altitude, not in the valley.

The resort is 20km off the A2 Motorway.

I have been to Engelberg in May and it was only possible to ski from Titlis down to Stand. The area around Traubsee where the XC skiing is was pretty low on snow. I'd say you are ok until April down as far as Traubsee at about 1800m.

In May you will be very limited in places that are open. Most resorts will close between Easter and mid April, only the Glacier resorts will have their upper runs open after this.

Thanks, bandit and ir12daveor. That is helpful.
Are the glacier resorts worthwhile and is there one you might recommend? Thanks so much. -janice
