I love January skiing too, cold and sunny usually whenever I've been. We had a lot of fresh powder in Jan in ADH but thats the only Jan trip we had with much snow to speak of falling.
I've found March and April have higher levels of snowfall and have had much more powder later in the season generally, possibly something to do with changing weather patterns or something.
But later in the season means going higher up to get it though.
Jan is probably the safest month to ski as you will get snow and cold weather.

I must say I agree with Tony January has a certain appeal normally very cold, sunny good snow but also march has an appeal longer days plenty of sun and a very good snow record.
