I reckon Chamonix would fit the bill nicely. Great skiing, mountain views etc, loads of shops, and lively apres ski. Short transfer time from Geneva as well (about an hour and 20 mins).
Lots of people talk about the fact that you have to get the ski bus to the different areas and that its a hassle. I have to say that I have been to Chamonix twice and have never found it that much of an inconvenience - each area is big enough that you will probably ski there all day so its not like you are getting on and off the bus all day. You will just have a short journey in the morning, and then again in the afternoon/evening. They run regularly though, and its free (covered by lift pass).
Hope that helps

Hi Duncan, you do realise it is half term when you are going? it will most likely be very busy so maybe harder to get booked up with the kids being off school

Went to Courchevel 2 years ago at half term, it is busy at ski school meeting times and of course lunch time, but don't eat piste side as already said, walk across to the forum or you can ski down to 1550, nice little blue runs down, much cheaper down there and then get the lift back up to 1850.
Although half term didn't feel over crowded as the area is so huge those that can get about will have gone onwards over to Meribel and further and lift queue's weren't that big as you have a choice of 3 and then a short ski under the tunnel and left is a 4 man chair too.
Don't let the girls loose with the credit card though, had to buy one of my kids a new ski jacket as she ripped hers to shreds in a toboggan run accident and the cheapest I could find in a shop in 1650 was 130 euro's, not pleased with that!

TC,
We will be staying in 1550 and having lessons starting and finishing in 1850. How hard is that blue run down from 1850 to 1550? One of our party has only done one week's ski-ing and I wasn't sure whether to try ski-ing back down it with her on the first day, or whether I should try it out myself first, to see how hard it is. I have found that sometimes, even blue runs can have quite hard stretches in them.
Tony,
What I meant about the half-term issue, is that at least this year there are clearly two different British half-term dates. Last year there was only one half-term date right across the U.K. and it was exceptionally busy everywhere.
I will have my 16 year old daughter with me, and I'm planning on keeping a very close eye on what she's doing with her debit card. I will have to put money on it for her in case of an emergency, but I don't want her blowing it all on some horrendously expensive item of frivolous clothing in one of those boutique shops in Courchevel 1850.

No you're wrong. Half term in Feb was over different weeks according to different areas in the UK previously as well. For example, I live on the Lincs/Cambs border. One set of schools was off 1 week, the other the next.
Dont forget the French are on holidays throughout Feb as well, according to regions.
