1. Getting a party of six from Chambery to La Tania, and return a week later, looks like a cost of around £400 for a private minibus. Any thoughts on a possible lower cost method?

2. I want to go from La Tania to Niederau, so Innsbruck, or more hopefully Worgl. So, I am looking at a 7 to 8 hour train journey, from Geneva, but first have to get to Geneva Hauptbahnhof.

Or, does anyone have any knowledge of Euro flights from Geneva/Chambery to Innsbruck?

Any contributors, that give a result, will be heavily rewarded with Zipfer beer on the 18th January, in the Bichlwirt.

For the La Tania transfer, I reckon the price is quite good for 6 people. Yes, it could be done cheaper by thumbing, but if you took a bus each way, the price of the tickets, along with a taxi or 2 from the bus depot would eat the savings. Door to door, it does not seem bad to me.

For your transfer to Niederau, I would be tempted to take a regular bus from Moutiers to GVA early evening, catch the train 1 stop to Geneva main station and stay overnight in the City Hostel near the main railway station in Geneva.

The choices I see for you are:
Pop back to the airport in the morning and catch a flight to Munich with Swiss and continue by train.

Catch an early train from Geneva to Innsbruck, with sbb.ch, taking between six and a half to seven hours forty to arrive.

Take a good book :D

Bandit, Thank you for that info. Don't really want to go the night before, (I might miss something), and I am sure that my OH would not like that. (She will be heading back to Scotland!)

I was surprised by the number of flights from Geneva to Munich.

So, although our group plan was to arrive and depart Chambery, I may try to engineer that towards Geneva. Bit of a PITA for my rest of the group, but the flight to Munchen is a clincher.

On the other hand, having never done the train journey through Switzerland, that does look an attractive option for me. It is just that to go in one day from La Tania to Worgl seems to be 30 min +3 hrs + 8 hrs+ planned early arrival/wait at Geneva. Add half an hour up to N. That is 12/13 hours. Do-able, depending on how early you have to leave LT.

One Zipfer I owe you. 18th Jan, the Bichlwirt. But thanks again.

Errk, cancel that Zipfer!

Flight with Swiss £450-ish, single one way, GVA~MUN! I can buy nine pairs of skis for that money! Enough to keep me going for another 108 years. Mimimum! Or two and a bit years seasons passes!

Is this the dark side of Switzerland? The underbelly of France?

I can't believe this. Tino seems to float round most of Alpine Europe, and get change out of sixpence!

What was ever the point in joining up to the European market, if one cannot achieve the simplest of skiing transactions?

Are you absolutely certain that the price was not quoted in GBP? It might be cheaper to buy a return ticket and be a no-show.

As a resident on mainland Europe, I expect that Tino will have the German equivalent of a Railcard, which will give savings on long distance travel in other european countries.

It's all about understanding the intergrated transport systems and how to get the best out of them. I travel solo a lot and do have a Bahncard as Bandit suggests, however travelling to CH or AT is sometimes cheaper without. I have one tip which I figured out when heading for Zermatt with Pabs, sometimes booking the required train starting in a neighboring country is cheaper even if you don't do 200km of the journey.

Happy to research and help anyone on this, but now I am at a rave in the sun and need another beer.
