Yeah agree with that one Les Carroz,Samoens and Morrillon are pleasant places never got as far Flaine but I have heard the rumours regarding price and being a concrete jungle... :(

Concrete Jungle, in the parts you won't want to stay in, but elsewhere...

I would not want to stay in the old bit either, but it is being renovated. No I am not pimping for them (in case you ask) )

Recollections of Flaine:

Architecture~ errm, I didn't do any painting when I was there.

Good skiing ~ a nice run called "Fred", and a steepish coulior, entered from the side, can't remember the name.

Was family friendly.

Very expensive to eat and drink.

Nice restaurant self-cook meal on a "Pierrade", a hot stone.

I went there around 4 or so years ago.

We stayed in a catered chalet in the Hameau de Flaine which was really beautiful.
Food was great and you also had a cake and hot drinks in the afternoon.
It meant that it was only around lunchtime that we got food out and I don't remember the prices being too bad but I wouldn't have noticed it due to being in the chalet.

I thought the skiing was very good and it did seem more geared towards families.
The night life isn't too great but that would work in favour of a family holiday.

Fun park is great even though I fell 4 out of 7 times when I went over the jumps

Watch out for 'Jade' a red run but steer clear if you're not confident as it may ruin any confidence you've built up!
I agree about off piste and when you go on certain chair lifts (like the one to Jade; I think that's the one) you'll travel over holes in which you can sometimes see waaay down.
Apparently people had died the previous season skiing over one of these.
I'd say stay away from off piste unless with a guide.

It is definately a resort I'd go back to especially if they moved it to Austria and the apres ski

Horrible place. Looks like a old eastern block flat complex.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Hi, skied Flaine for one day on a free pass last season, too many blues at the top and too many rocks on the way down. We took a packed lunch so can't help with the prices. Dont think We will go back.

Ha! Beat you to it for once, Sherlock! 8)

And there was me thinking blogs were for relating personal experiences - how dreadfully old-fashioned of me to forget the needs of PR agencies.

Moving on... anyone actually interested in skiing there?

I let you have that one, no point in letting you get complacent  )

Been to Flaine, stayed in the Hameau, and it's possible to skate down to the main lifts on skis, as there is a track beside the road. Good skiing, and I really liked the restaurants on the Les Carroz side

Oops, I've only just seen this. Athena should have been a little clearer, she works with me online and we've been approached by a fair few travel websites asking if we know of any skiers who have spent time in Flaine.
