There is no Federal sales tax, but each state charges ( or doesn't charge thier own sales tax). However buying on line means no sales tax unless you reside in the state that the goods are being sold from. So no sales tax to the UK on the US side.

I bought a NF Jacket from the US earlier this year, and there were no tax implications. Shipping cost only.

Tony,
I bought a pair of previous season Atomic Izor skis from an American sports shop last year and made a huge saving compared to buying here (Ireland).
About 6 months later I recived a bill for import duty from DHL for about 60Euros but even with this charge I reckon I saved about 250 euros.
Lots of bargins on e bay too and with the weak dollar its even better.
Gar.

The import/vat duty is one of the reasons I was advocating ski trips to the US, especially if you need to buy gear. Pick the right place to go, like Utah. Where most ski areas are within an hours drive of Salt Lake City, which has many discount ski shops. If you were buying a new set up incl. boots and clothing etc, you could easily save several hundred pounds. This would make the trip as a whole better value. Returing home, no one knows if you bought the gear abroad or took it out with you. Timing would be important as gear goes on sale in late February. I don't think the International baggage allowances have been clobbered yet, but who knows.
You may even find the politics have changed by that time next year )

I bought several things in the US last season, whilst making a hell of saving, you have to watch out for duty if you carry them or post them.
I bought a whole new Spyder jacket and pants setup for 50% of the price in Europe, which is probably 20% cheaper than the UK in the first place. That was in November flying from Minnesota, so I could easily have been boarding so duty was never really gonna be a problem.
Quite glad I did not get stopped in April flying back from LA with a pair of brand new 380 GBP snowboard boots and no other gear mind :)
Along with a pair of Oakleys, I reckon I saved about 500 - 600 quid buying in the US.
