Yes most things on here are negitive, but most is due to the lack of extensive ski area for intermidiates, your a beginner, you will thrive in Arinsal due to their excellent ski school, and there will always be snow on the beginner slopes, i'd say by the end of the week you wil have learned so much at the Arinsal ski school, you will have the confidence to try Pal, and even( maybe) Arclais- the have geat strolling blue and green runs which by the end of the week you will master)

it's a gondola from the top of the hill in arinsal. think the last arinsal gondola back to resort is 5 pm so be sure to get on the pal gondola by 4 to allow for ski times. Sure there'll be taxis back if not. Arcalis is where it's at.
Have a great time!!

Went there March 07...
Rather limiting i'd have to say, but the resort Arclais is a true gem, id rate it very highly, as highly as Livingo to be honest, yes its remote, but the snow is nearly always powder due to the 'bowl' shaped slopes, and any off piste lovers will be at home here, with lots of available action at the La Coma side, there are some good views too.
Overall
Arinsal= Bad slopes, good food, cheap
Arclais=Great
Andorras capital= Cheap, cosmopolitan, fun
Transfare= 4 hours, not bad views.

We're going to Pal-Arinsal for New Year.... can't wait...(even though most of the posts on j2ski are quite negative about Arinsal!!)
All beginners and me (1 week and 1 days skiing from being a beginner!! so i'm not too much further on than the rest!)
Looking forward to an easyish ski holiday.. I've booked everything separately and have got such a good deal, especially seeing as it is school holidays etc...
Should I book equipment and lift pass before I go? I have got a Vallnord Discount card... maybe it would be cheaper to wait until we get out there?
Another question.... I am thinking of buying ski boots... should I buy them in Andorra? If so, any recommendations...?

With a Vallnord card you'll get 10% off your lift pass and lessons plus equipment at selected shops, however you'll have to queue up at the lift pass office, then head round to ski school to get booked in.

If you're buying boots, personally I'd buy them out there as you can try different makes before you buy, plus if you get thermally fitted boots (where they mould parts of the inside to your foot), you can wear your new boots for a day on the slopes then get them moulded, which I think is better than getting them moulded straight away. Also, hopefully it won't be but if something is wrong with your new boots you can easily take them back.
