Went to Tonale for first time mid jan- great skiing-intermediate despite fog and snowy weather. There might not be many tree lined runs but who wants to spoil the view of the mountains. Didn't get to ski the glacier as lifts up ther ewere not running very often- bad weather me thinks!
It is not the prettiest vilage I've seen and there are a couple of tower blocks, but it is far from ugly.
Didn't go for the night life and it struck me as being a bit on the quiet side, but then that is not always a bad thing.
I'll be going again next year.

Hi
Been there twice teaching our kids to ski. Great place to learn with really forgiving runs for novices. It's pretty boarder friendly too with most lifts being chairs. The only T-Bars to speak of are on top of Presena, but hey whats the problem with T-Bars.

Whilst we're on this topic does anyone know of good accommodation here available for the first week in April?

Cheers...S

Snow sure, short runs, spend a lot of time on lifts, Pretty cheap by alpine standards, not a pretty resort,ok starter resort. Would I go again, No.

No idea about boarding - but the resort itself I'd give a thumbs up to.

Had fantastic time there in Jan 08. Great skiing, the beginners in the group progressed very quicckly on the greens and blues.

El Bait is definatly worth a visit apres ski if you hungry and like you beer (as in appreciate you beer styles) as there's usually free apres ski nibbles from about 4.30pm and they have the best range of beer (styles) I've ever seen in a ski resort - they were even getting in single barrels of different beers on request for customers who had been before ! It was more like a UK real ale pub with guest beers than a rip off ski bar, and prices were very down to earth to.

Anyway... I'm going back. nuff said.

P.S. And they got Jenga!

Sorry to rain on Tony's parade but its actually Ponte de LEGNO, which apparently means wooden bridge. This place is worth the slide down the valley. Its a small local type resort and the runs are pretty challenging. I skied there in 2006 and I can honestly say I have never seen so many really good skiers in one day.
The downside then was a bus journey back up the valley, but I believe there is a gondola now.
I have to say I didnt find much night life in Tonale itself, but it was toward the end of the season.
Enjoy!!!! :D

I went late in the season 2007 and had a great time, the nightlife is a bit quiet but you can always make your own fun!
Ill be back there first week in Jan and the snow looks fantasic at the moment and it just keeps coming so hoping for a good week in powder!!

Back for the 3rd time this January. Always had a great time. Most of the Ski Instructors are act as barmen during the evening which leads to some fun and games. Not pulsing with night life but agee with Le Baits and the Yellow Umbrella is great from about 1630 hrs for the odd hours followed by the Magic Bar and a quick stoll up the road to Le Bait.

Locals friendly and the ski lift system is quick with the best time from 1300-1430 hrs.

Why do ski nuts go to lunch at the same time.
