Hi Jan,

Tried to look at the Auhof site. but it gave me error 404, or something. It matters not, this is the wee lift I saw last year, surrounded by green stuff, as was most things.

I haven't got the hang of direct contact on J2ski yet.
With a skiing mate, I get to Niederau 4/5 weeks a year, usually split in two sessions, Jan & March. Arriving mid Jan. will be in Bichlwirt on most nights, possibly playing guitar, if circumstances right. Do you stay at Grafenweg end?.

Going back to Niederau for the third time on Saturday. Does anyone know what the snow is like there at the mo and if it's due to snow again any time soon? Was panicking a bit cos it hasn't snowed for a couple of weeks now although I notice from the webcam this morning it's looking a lot better. Don't really want another week of skiing on slush and ice like last season. )

SkiGirl, you have to believe!! Niederau slopes are north facing. The view seen from the Flugschule webcam is the south facing hill. Right now, it is showing snow on the south facing hill.

The Niederau piste machine men do a good job.

Re last year, I found the best skiing was on the brown snow, and gave a much firmer grip!

Face downhill, ski well.

Hi SkiGirl,

Don't know if you'll get this before you leave on Sat but just a quick note to reassure you that all is great out here in Niederau.

We had a long spell of cold dry weather for what seemed like most of December. This didn't affect the skiing or the pistes which held us well (as pointed out by Dave Mac - the slopes are North facing so hold the snow fine) but then had a fairly big dump (30 - 40 cms) just after Christmas which has freshened everything up nicely.

Don’t tell anyone but I found a great website for weather forecasts which seem to be very accurate (compared with other forecast sites!) you can find it if you follow this link http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Austria/Niederau_snow.html Looking at this site it would seem that we are in for a rather mixed bag next week.

Looking out the window we have a clear start to the day with some high stratus cloud and some lower cloud visible on the horizon. My remote weather station wireless sender unit (Thanks again Santa!) tells me that the temperature is -1.8 and the relative humidity is at 24%.

All the pistes are in use and I can’t see any brown or green, so I think you are in for a top holiday, enjoy!

Jan

I agree what Jan mention, because I came back from ski last week.

Even there is not snowing but still leave many snow in the mountain and the local people have work so hard to make the artificial snow every night.

I known, because my hotel just opposite the ski area. I will go back there again but this time will stay for 2 weeks which stay for x'mas and new year eve as well.

However, I am back to real world to stay in the city.

Hi Jan, The four man chairlift you spoke about previously has been mooted for a few years. I know that last year the hoteliers gave a strong message to the owner of the lift company. Is there an actual date for this lift? We have lost a few good runs on that side, and the current set up will make the Hochberg and Gseng abfahrts like a day trip.

Off to the three valleys tomorrow, and then Niederau on 17th ~ be in the Bichlwirt then!
